Spirits — Restaurant in Cologne

I think it's only fair that one gets what they vouch for, so I'll be germanically straightforward about it. Generally speaking, service in Köln is quite subpar. For the most part, waiters and bartenders range from indifferent to ill-mannered, and clients get the feeling that they're not exactly welcome.

Amidst this disappointing setting, Spirits definitely stands out as a glorious surprise. Extremely kind and professional people, fast and eager to their service, cheerful and responsive. Cocktails are amazing, that's why 2 stars. Unfortunately the positive things end here. Even though the waitresses were super kind, we've been asked (we were 3)to move from our table to a bar without even chairs to leave space for a 4 people group, who didn't reserve either. This is not a decent treatment, there is no reason or principle why we had to stand and the other group has to get our places. What a cozy find. Wanted a cocktail after a long day and Spirits was perfect.

The bartenders were wonderful and the drinks were amazing. I tried a new drink for the first time. The bartenders are very attentive, regularly refilling my dish of chips and water. The decor is just right - not too dark but definitely not bright. Music at a decent volume to allow for talking.
