I passed Rico a few times already and noticed its homogene atmosphere from outside but encouraged myself to take a glance from inseide, n it was with a lil boy :D 3 of us went there at Weekend noon where it is usually very busy during Tea/Coffee Time but were lucky enough to get a corner table not far from the stair Down to the Restroom.
The choices of cakes and tarts are okay. We got some yummy 2 Strawberry tarts ( one with cream and the second one with Youghurt cream filling) and a Frankfurter Kranz. But it was NOT a must as it was quite pricey n surely you could fine the same even better offer with much more moderate place somewhere else.
They also offer a wide range of Cold n Hot Beverages. We ordered Rico Coffee, Rico Hot Choc and a regular hot choc. Too bad the Rico Hot Choc dindt come out as expected. The choc was too thin and tasted like regular hot choc from McD or something.
One more thing, despite of its good image esp. in the Gay Scene, I once wrote a 3* Review about this cafe and the owner attacked...

The staff here cafe Rico really know how to treat all their customers right. You could tell from a mile away we were a group of tourist wandering around for a hearty breakfast.
Unfortunately I donât remember or know how to pronounce the menu items but I ordered 3 things. The scrambled eggs breakfast platter, the German mini pancakes with vanilla and cherries, and the flamkuchen (German flatbread). First off I didnât know pickles would work so well with some scrambled eggs and buttered toast. The mini pancakes drizzled with the vanilla sauce (more like a custard) were the best pancakes I ever had. Finally the flamkuchen (bacon one) was delicious, super thin and crunchy with some chew as you get to the middle. Our table ordered about 20 items between 6 of us and we devoured everything.
We did however agree that the cakes were more sour then we are used to in the states. Silly...
Read moreBest non-German-style breakfast I ever had in Deutschland. If I closed my eyes I could have imagined myself somewhere in the USA, like a cool diner or cafe in Philly or NYC, only with better cakes. The scrambles eggs were like a huge omelette, with all the fixins you can imagine, plus a huge awesome German bread basket. They also have healthier, fruit and yoghurt bases breakfasts, plus salmon dishes, sandwiches with gourmet mustards, etc. The coffee was great as well, with a great selection. And it's in a lovely, lovely, progressive artsy alternative neighbourhood. Like the Village when it was still cool, called the Belgian Quarter. The service was cool as hell and funny and friendly. Especially the guy with the fox tattoo If you go to Cologne, and you should, then you have to go to Rico as well. And not only...
