Trash-Chic — Restaurant in Cologne

As much as I love this place, my most recent visit has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. After placing our food order, no one ever came back. We waited over an hour on the food before having to flag down a waitress to ask if it was still coming. She reacted semi-surprised and went to check. Came back a few minutes later and without explanation or apology, just stated "the next food coming out will be yours."

Uh, okay, at this point we were starving and thirsty, since no one came back to get drink orders, either.

We waited another 15 minutes for what was the most criminally undersalted and underseasoned food I've paid to eat. The waitress promptly avoided all eye contact with our table for the rest of the night and sent her colleague to collect our tab. Didn't bother to ask us how it was, only asked "Together or separate?"

Come ON Trash Chic you are...

The staff were extremely friendly, spoke English very well, and had English menus available. Both my girlfriend and I are vegan. Many of the items are already vegan, and most can be made vegan. We ordered a small feast - 2 beers, a savory pastry whose name escapes me, fried spring rolls, fries with cheese and a sweet chili sauce, pumpkin lasagna, chocolate mousse, and a gyro wrap to-go. The pastry and the lasagna were specials, but the rest was from the regular menu. Everything was delicious, and we especially recommend the chili-cheese fries and the chocolate mousse. I believe that the food would be appealing to non-vegan/vegetarians as well. We felt that the portion sizes were generous and the prices were reasonable. We are already talking about returning here for dinner...

Zuerst einmal das Positive: Die Bedienung war sehr sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Typisch "kölsch" halt: Aufgeschlossen und humorvoll, als auch aufmerksam. Außerdem waren sie sehr gut informiert über das aktuelle tagesangebot und konnte Fragen zielsicher beantworten. Der Laden erinnert immer noch sehr an die alte Kölsche Kneipe, die er vorher mal war, was jedoch sehr symphatisch ist. Preislich sind die Gerichte durchwegs sehr preiswert.

Über das Essen kann ich leider nur eingeschränkt Gutes sagen. Die Vorspeisenplatte ist voll ausreichend für 2 Personen. Die darin enthaltene Veganaise war recht geschmackneutral, das Grillgemüse sehr sehr lecker, das Linsencurry und der Zaziki ok, aber nicht kein Geschmackserlebnis. Das Soja-Gyros war trocken und überhaupt nicht gewürzt. Die Füllung des Burritos war würzig und saftig und schmeckte gut, aber der Teig drumherum war stellenweise so hart, dass ich ihn noch nicht mal schneiden konnte. Das Essen hat mich demnach überhaupt nicht überzeugt.

Fazit: Ich würde noch einmal ins Trash Chic gehen, aber nur, wenn ich ausschließlich was trinken möchte. Das Essen hat mich größtenteils überhaupt nicht überzeugt, weswegen ich meine Hunger in diesem Laden nicht...
