Delicious modern German fare, + cozy atmosphere, + off the beaten path

When walking through Dresden’s nightlife hub Neustadt I found the Lila Sosse hidden in the Kunsthofpassage. Neustadt and the passage are located far off the touristy old town area.

Lila Sosse is located in the first floor of an old building and its interior reminds of an old fashioned living room with a beautiful tiled fireplace and a cozy wooden interior. If the weather permits pastel colored tables and chairs are set up in the narrow lane of the Kunsthofpassage that connects the different backyards with each other.

Having a closer look at the menu you will realize that all dishes are served in preserving jars. This is a complete uncommon way to eat food in a German restaurant and the reason why Lila Sosse’s concept is quite unique. The menu is focused on hot and cold German specialties with the size of Spanish Tapas dishes.

I really encourage everyone to visit this place because of its relaxing and warm atmosphere. Moreover the neighborhood differs so much from the classy historic old town, showing you more of the real Dresden. And finally the food is incredible delicious. If available try the Currywurst, the Rabbit, and the Cheese Spaetzle.

The food is fine - not great but not bad. The server was so rude to me I almost cried - honestly I can’t recall being treated so rudely in a restaurant in my life. She completely ignored me while actively providing pleasant service to the tables all around me. People who came an hour after me were served before me. The server walked around and asked other tables if they were enjoying their food but didn’t speak a word to me. She cleared my plates without speaking or even looking at me - she seemed to be trying to avoid eye contact. It’s true that I don’t speak German but I am polite and patient, and she was speaking fluent English with other tables, so I don’t know what the issue was. For context, I arrived at 7:00 and had to flag down her colleague at 7:41 to finally order food, which reached my table at 8:15… the same time as the table beside me received the same dish that they had ordered at 7:55. When I went to pay I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip. For what? The manager said that the poor service was because they were busy… but apparently my server was only too busy to help me yet had exactly enough time to provide good service to every other...

We decided to stop by without a reservation, hoping to get lucky and thankfully, we did. Despite being fully booked and having to turn away several walk-ins, the kind lady behind the bar managed to find us a small, cozy table.

From the moment we walked in, the staff were warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, especially the woman who greeted us - always smiling and attentive.

The food was excellent. My girlfriend ordered the asparagus risotto, which was absolutely spectacular. I chose one of the daily specials listed on the boards - a burger. It turned out to be a fish burger.. Now, a quick note: I don't like fish. Yet, in what I can only describe as a true testament to the chef’s skill, I finished the entire dish and would gladly order it again. It was that good!
