Read moreOverrated - not at all what they think they believe who they are
Reef and Beef Düsseldorf pretend to be a true steak house. They're not. To give them some credit: they're trying by offering a definetely large variety of cuts, seafood and side dishes inspired by American steak house.
My review in short:
(1) Too expensive. 40-50€ for a plain 400g rump steak or 100€ for 100g Kobe beef is too much
(2) Not living up to it. "Kobe" is not Kobe, but Wagyu - like almost everywhere. The rump steak is sold like a US strip loin. But it's not. Too fatty, different cut.
(3) Not cooked to perfection. Simple as that - they just didn't do it the way they should when it comes to the range from raw to well-done.
(4) Side dishes - fancy names, but that's it. Cream spinach is like "Iglo Rahmspinat" or "mit Blubb" ... nothing like the American original.
(5) Starters, well .... salad's are fine, sea food is not. Oysters rockefeller, for example, tasted like lukewarm oysters topped with cold spinach and some Garlic flavor.
(6) Wine selection. Not really elaborate, especially missing good Cabs for the beef.
(7) Service ... German as a second language is a good description, but English wasn't the native language either. No friendly welcome, no introduction to the menue, no daily specials, no wine recommendation, no proactive service at all.
Overall it's a waste of money to go there. There are better steak houses...
Read moreThe food was outstanding and came out quickly after ordering. The service was disappointing for a restaurant of its caliber. We have ate at many "fancy" steak restaurants and we typically pay high prices for the food because not only do we expect the food to be great but also the service. We had made a reservation and we were given the option to sit at a table right in front of the open door even though there were plenty of other tables for two available. When we were seated my wife had to ask for a drink menu and then was given the food menu with only some drinks. I then had to ask for the wine menu and he then realized that I also needed a regular menu. So as soon as we had the menus figured out we then were able to order the drinks. The entire night we were clearly low on the waiters list of priorities. He was running past our table quite often but we were never asked if we wanted a second drink, how the food was, or if we wanted desert. After waiting for a half hour with nothing at our table we finally asked for the check even though we had been craving desert or another beverage. Very disappointing as we're new to Dusseldorf and this restaurant had the potential to be our new "go to" restaurant but that doesn't...
