I have visited cafe hilge ( Domplatz branch) primarily to read and work with having a coffee by my side. For this purpose, the cafe has both pros and cons. The pros are that the staff are very helpful and also offered access to the cafe wifi. They did gently warn me that that the music might be loud. This is the cons of the hilge of domplatz. While the music wasnt that loud and complimented my mood a lot, it did take me out of the reading eventually. But that is just me and the place is definitely worth checking out in any case.
For other purposes like hanging out with friends or etc, hilge is probably a wonferful place and it seem to be a popular hang out place for many people. So, a lot depends on what you are visiting hilge for. The situation is quite different with the hilge at the universitat erfurt where i did most of the last days of my thesis. And that is a wonderful place to study and socialise and was literally a life saver for me. I hope this...
Read moreWe went to Café Hilgenfeld at the Domplatz yesterday. I really wanted to go as it is mentioned in the Coffee Guide 2018. The four of us had two espresso macchiatos and two double espressos. When they arrived the aroma was good, smelled chocolaty. The volume seemed too much for the double espressos and it tasted very bitter/overextracted. We left without saying anything but at the same time we were never asked how it tasted after paying. I was also a bit horrified to see mouldy coffee beans on their display/for sale wall.
