TL;DR- great food, great beer, be prepared to wait. A while! We sat inside, took around 15 min to get service. We borrowed one menu from the next table over. When our server was at the other table, we asked if we could place an order. We were told we would have to “wait about 5 minutes”. We asked if we could at least each order a beer (party of 2), he said yes, but only took my wife’s order. After another 15 min, another server brought 2 beers, different than we ordered. We correct him on the beers (Hefe-Weizen, Ur-Dunkel), and he apologized and brought the correct beers immediately. And the fresh beer is outstanding! We placed our dinner order, waited over 45 min for it to arrive, but it was worth the wait! I was hoping with Brezel mit Kräuterfrischkäse (pretzel with herb cream cheese) would come out first, but it came out with our entrees. I ordered the Winzerpfanne, a dish of pork loin slices with a mushroom cream sauce, potatoes thatbi can only describe as “upscale tater tots”, and thin green beans wrapped in bacon. Portion size was great, food was hot, and flavor outstanding! Beer was dry, waiting to order another round…. My fife ordered the Jägerschnitzel, which I tried, also outstanding. After being completely finished with dinner, we ordered 2 more beers, but waited a long time for those from when we ordered, and even longer from when our beers went dry. We didn’t even try dessert. It is apparent good help is hard to find. Maybe some staff called in sick, or maybe they don’t have enough employees (endemic in USA). But if you have the time and patience (we are staying at the Airport Marriott, and leave in the morning), and can manage the correct state of mind, you will be treated to excellent food, and even better beer!

📍 Paulaner @ The Squaire – Twice This Year and Still Worth It! 🇩🇪🍺 Back again at Paulaner at The Squaire — my second visit this year, and still a favourite stop for a proper taste of Bavaria, especially if you’re on a short transit through Frankfurt with no time to head into town. This time I was pleasantly surprised by their seasonal summer menu — light, refreshing, and perfect for the warm weather. But don’t worry — the classics are still here too: 🥨 Weißwurst (white sausage) 🐷 Pork knuckle 🥩 Schnitzel 🥗 Wurstsalat 🍻 Plus a solid selection of German beers And for those who don’t take alcohol — they’ve got non-alcoholic beer too, so you can still enjoy the full experience. ✅ Conveniently located at The Squaire (linked to the airport & train station) ✅ No city trip needed ✅ Good food, fast service, authentic vibes Definitely a go-to for transit comfort food — and worth a repeat visit!

Second try. First time empty, this time bursting. Horribly understaffed. Since it was about half the staff that would have been required for nesr decent service it was also as slow as can be. Staff as unfriendly as can be in both cases. "What about my Schnitzel?" - "ya, I know. Takes time." "Boiling water for a baby? No. We can't do that. No time." Food mediocre or below. The gulash soup contained more vegetables than meat and was as good as any can. 8€. The Schnitzel was undercooked as it was rushed. Just like the extremely greasy potatoes and onions. The salad was okay, bordering on nice. Green leafs and a premade sauce. Prices nevertheless are the only things that are really top notch here. And outside people were lining up. I'm not gonna try that place again though.

I believe in treating service staff with kindness and respect, which is exactly how we approached our visit to Paulaner. We don't expect servers to be extraordinarily cheerful - everyone has off days - but basic honesty should be standard.

After being seated, we placed our order with the server who approached promptly. When I asked about tap water and learned they only offered bottled water, I remembered out-loud having my own bottle in my bag. The server immediately stated I wasn't allowed to drink my own water.

Despite our calm and friendly demeanor throughout the interaction, the server became increasingly agitated. What crossed the line for me was when he claimed Frankfurt's tap water isn't safe to drink - specifically at the airport. This is factually incorrect, as Germany has some of the highest water quality standards in Europe and recognizes access to safe drinking water as a basic human right. The federal government has strongly supported this concept and has even sponsored initiatives in the UN Human Rights Council regarding "Human Rights and Access to Water". Using misinformation to sell bottled water feels deeply unethical.

After he left with our food order, we decided we couldn't enjoy a meal in such a hostile environment. When we politely informed him we'd be canceling and leaving, he appeared genuinely surprised - perhaps unaware that treating customers disrespectfully has consequences.

We found a pleasant experience at Alex across the hall where the staff was courteous and professional - not extraordinarily friendly, just respectful.

I hope this feedback encourages reflection on how powerful simple kindness can be in customer interactions, and how damaging dishonesty is to...

Man fragte uns genau einmal, beim ankommen, ob wir was trinken möchten.
