I visited Saravini early December with family for dinner. It was my first and our last visit to Saravini… We ordered several antipasti up front to share. The quality and taste overall were good, however the beef carpaccio was extremely cold as it had just been taken out of the freezer. We were told the carpaccio must be this cold in order to cut it. I´ve never eaten “frozen” beef carpaccio. Between the antipasti and main course, we shared pasta with porcino and one pinsa. Both meals were very delicious. Now comes the unfortunately very unpleasant experience and situation… As a main course we had two beef dishes (ribeye steak and tagliata) and two pasta dishes (Vongole and Gamberi). Quality and taste wise, all dishes were excellent. However, with one of my last bites I bit on what I believed to be a cigarette stub. This thing, whatever it was, was disgusting, gross, tasted very strange and artificial. It even smelled like smoke. The texture was also weird, somewhat stringy. Understandably, I was not able to finish my meal. The chef came out of the kitchen observed the piece and said that it must be a piece of an artichoke stem. The question then is just why there was artichoke mixed within the pasta even though it should not have been...? However, the piece smelled extremely like smoke and presumably was a cigarette stub. It was nothing like an artichoke or anything natural. We immediately asked for the check and left the restaurant.
We will not come back...
Read morethe food was fine, but the service was shocking. When I, a young Asian woman, showed up alone at the counter, no one greeted me; no one offered to take my coat; no one offered to take my order for a drink before the other guest showed up. But ten minutes later, when my husband, a white male, appeared, he was greeted immediately; his coat was taken; two menus were brought to us in no time. He saw my sullen mood, asked why, and insisted in complaining to the elder waiter, who, however, immediately referred us to a female colleagues of hers -- even though my complaint was not directed at her, as she was waiting on a table of female customers when I arrived. Rather, I complained about the two younger male waiters, who were simply goofing around as if I didn't exist. She patiently listened and smiled and laughed and protested, saying that it just happened. Then she left. Her male colleagues never came to apologize. We ended up not tipping.
So, here is my terrible suspicion: the service is not really bad; it's simply racist and chauvinistic. I do hope...
Read moreVisited Saravini on a Saturday night for an early dinner as a couple. The place was empty. When we first entered the place, it was stinking cold smoke and as well as my hair and jacket did after dinner. We shared a starter (Vitello tonato) which was ok, but nothing special. I had pasta with truffles as a main dish and my boy friend had salmon in mustard sauce. What shall I say? My pasta was completely tasteless and just floating in some white sauce which wasn’t even cream. When I make pasta at home it’s way more tasty. For the price of more than 18 euros absolutely not justified. Just the taste of truffles saved the dish a little, after few spoons I was done and had to leave more than half of the portion. My boyfriends salmon looked pretty dry and soaked in oil. And was ok-ish. When taking the plates, the waiter didn’t even ask if everything was fine - probably knowing and sensing from our faces it wasn’t. No suggestion and pure disappointment for this place, there are way better restaurants. Actually a shame for...
