Currify am Zähringer Tor — Restaurant in Freiburg im Breisgau

Thankfully Freiburg has a growing number of family owned restaurants, which offer a number of international kitchens in good to high quality at very reasonable prices. With great enthusiasm, local cooking skills and passion for the authentic food from their home countries, these restaurants offer great opportunities to get to know the world’s kitchens. One of these new places is the Indien restaurant Currify at the Zähringer Tor. This is still a Geheimtipp. Rohit Sharma and his team of Indien chefs offer an amazing variety of Indian dishes. Their own Tandoori oven enables them to present the wonderful chicken, lamb, shrimp or cod dishes, which are tenderly grilled and superbly spiced. His Thali dishes, the many specialties and his home made breads and chutneys and Masala-starters as well as as his extensive list of vegetarian and vegan dishes are mouthwatering. And the best thing is, it tastes like in India! No attempts to Germanize his cooking. The use of all these wonderful spices is very thoughtful and the most friendly staff advise you on all dishes offered. He needs to improve his wine list, which I am sure will happen soon. We tried their biryani and seekh kebabs. I guess we ordered 2 items that we shouldn't have. Biryani is no where close to a biryani of may kind. It's more of just of sauted rice with boiled chicken. The seekh kebabs were not great too. Just out from the freezer & directly put on the flame, made them chewy instead of they melting in the mouth!!! The ambience is great and staff is good too. Just the food isn't!!!!! I am somehow shocked how do they have so many positive reviews or thier are either for veg thali or ther starters!!!

We picked up dinner here and were very pleased with everything. Ordered via telephone speaking to a friendly young lady and were promised a short waiting time for the food to be ready for pickup. It was the night of the opening of the renovated location, next time we will definitely stay there to eat. The very kind staff (I believe it is the owner’s family) had our order ready for pick up.
