Azeitona — Restaurant in Hamburg

We booked a table but we have to wait around 30 minutes before getting in. The waiter was very nice to offer us a "sorry" shot while we waited. The place felt very small but cozy. Do not try to touch their candles lanterns on the table because they burned couple fingers during the night :D The food's expectations were very high because of the reviews and the popularity of the place, but in general the food was good but nothing astonishing. Tasty but also basic. I still think it's a nice place to dine in but...

The food was ok. Quite affordable prices.

But the whole experience was a bit awkward. We felt a little lost, because we are foreigners, and the staff weren't exactly helpful. No 'hi', no 'bye', just waiting for our next move. Conversing in German with my friend while the rest of us had zero clue about what's going on.

It is a pity that the menu doesn't have any labels regarding what's vegan or contains lactose.

The place was not...

Tja, im Großbereich Schanze/Karoviertel mangelt es ja nun wahrlich nicht an Möglichkeiten, vergleichsweise gut und günstig zu essen. Die Wahl fiel auf dieses Lokal, da es ein klein wenig abseits und damit auch etwas ruhiger gelegen ist. Der größere Teil der Gäste holt das Essen ab, der kleinere Teil der Gäste darf sich dann zwischen Außenbereich, konventionellem Gastraum und dem orientalischen stuhl- und schuhlosen Bereich entscheiden. Insgesamt ist aber alles platzmäßig recht begrenzt. Die genaue geographische Orientierung blieb mir unklar, einigen wir uns auf "orientalisch" - so steht es auch auf der Speisekarte. Es gibt Mazza/Mezze, Falafel, Kibba aus Couscous, Halloumi, Ayran und sogar alkoholhaltiges Bier - also eine muntere Mischung, aber wen interessiert's? Die Portionen sind reichlich, die Preise fair und günstig. Die Falafel waren hervorragend, die Kibba ebenso. Die Mazza/Antipasti waren gleichzeitig auch Beilagen zu den Hauptgerichten (Plattformstrategie) und teilweise etwas ungewöhnlich. So fanden sich auch Erbsen & Wurzeln aus der Dose mit Kartoffeln auf dem Teller - eine wahrhaftig lustige Kombination...Insgesamt eine gute und günstige Möglichkeit, in netter Atmosphäre vegetarisch zu essen. Die angenehme Bedienung trug...
