While most of us associate the word „relationship“ with joint experiences at least two people share with each other (e.g., a couple, mother-son), I notice my relationships with legal entities (e.g., a flower shop, a restaurant, a café) to be of substantial importance to my quality of life.
A famous Harvard study proves the importance of relationships to fellow humans for a happier, wealthier, more fulfilling and especially healthier life.
I found that strong relationships to legal entities add to the positive effects humans expect from the common relationships.
A relationship is not a thing. It isn‘t steady. It‘s a process. An ever-changing stream of experiences, both good and/ or bad.
I doubt anyone has kept reading up to this point, but if you have, keep reading. My relationship with Favorita has been strengthened remarkably over these past few months.
To use an analogy from love relationships: I never thought I could fall in love with their cappuccino, which means I couldn’t fall in love with the place at all. Too Italian the coffee, a dark roast, too large of a crowd outside on sunny days, too much Aperol and Louis Vuitton, and slower service / lack of waiters.
Well, sometimes we need a little bit more time to fall in love. Sometimes, we shouldn‘t stop dating right after the second or third date which didn‘t light the spark quite yet.
Sometimes, it takes a bit more patience. A bit more open-mindedness, a bit more tolerance, a bit more non-judgmental attention. That‘s at least what our relationship needed; the one between Favorita and myself.
I kept going. Kept experimenting. Kept building a relationship to the staff, kept ordering the cappuccino, and tried their freshly pressed OJ as well.
I slipped into this thing. I didn‘t pressure anything. I neither needed or wanted this to happen. I‘m „polyamorous“ so to speak - I am in love with more than just one café in my neighborhood. This relationship was a sudden surprise. Favorita hugged me, carefully. They didn‘t pressure me, they let this thing we got going evolve.
I appreciate the way they‘ve been treating me. I am living in the moment. I‘m not trying to plan ahead, to ensure this fling lasts all summer and beyond. I am witnessing this relationship, while I am...

Just pay attention if the middle-aged female cashier is serving you otherwise this cafe...
