First, I will review the food. The sauces are salty and the dishes are not authentic. It’s is very overpriced for the quality they provide. It is a fast food Asian expérience but I think many have not tasted Asian food in an authentic context because most Asian restaurant eyes in Hamburg don’t have the budget for as nice a space. Hopefully that will change because L’Quan is too hyped for what it is. We went because it is halal and we often are limited in choice at other Vietnamese restaurants but there are many others that certainly serve more authentic and better Asian food.
Now the service! It’s a shame that we were drawn there by the halal options because they certainly do not respect the muslim community. We had a truly terrible experience with I assume the manager or owner who began our service. To set a context, I am Chinese-Italian American and wear hijab. My husband and children are Black. The waitress seemed annoyed from the beginning seating us. She was remarkably curt and rough while seating us. We ordered drinks and meals and emphasized that we neede water quickly as my two sons were exceptionally thirsty. We asked for thé water several times and it did not come. The drinks for our girls came out quickly. I asked her a fourth time saying please my son is very thirsty. My husband then motioned to her when she was across the room and she told him (from across the room loudly in front of the entire restaurant) « look you need to calm down ». My husband is near sixty years old and this young lady must have been not above 30. She was extremely rude and aggressive from the moment we walked in. We stood up to leave and I went to the cashier area to pay for the drinks we had finished and she began berating my husband. I simply told her « you know full well that if we were White and German you would never dare to say such a thing just because we asked for water. » After speaking to other Black-German friends I have heard that their experiences are similar. I don’t know how things work in Hamburg, but if this were the States that restaurant would not have any non-White customers with the way they treat people! Racism cannot be tolerated, particularly when it is perpetuated by those who know it’s sting. I told the young lady that if she has dreams of having a great life or of ever traveling elsewhere or of expanding her future, she had best reflect on what she did that day. The world is big but there is no room in it for small-minded people. We cannot support and advance those that do not respect us! Time is up! No...
Read moreI have been going to L’quan for a few years. The service has always been good: Orders taken swiftly, food coming out quickly, dirty plates taken away promptly. It’s also one of the cozier restaurants in the area. My favorite dishes include any of their noodles. They’re always delicious. Their Pho has always helped me when I am sick. The food is also beautifully presented. My ONLY complaint, would be the spring rolls from the appetizers menu. They seemed prepackaged and not freshly made. I could be wrong of course, but I wouldn’t order something and pay that price for an item I can buy at the local market and pop in the oven myself. Besides that, L’quan is a great place to eat,...
Read moreL’Quán in Barmbek, Hamburg is a fantastic spot for pan-Asian cuisine, especially when I'm craving Vietnamese flavors. While they offer a mix of Vietnamese and Thai dishes, it's a delicious fusion experience. The ambiance is a highlight – the lighting and overall atmosphere create a wonderful dining experience. I've enjoyed L’Quán with both my wife and friends, and it's always a hit. The food is consistently good and satisfying. My only wish? They'd stay open later! Closing at 9 pm is a bit early; extending to 10 pm would likely bring in even more diners. If you're in Barmbek, Hamburg, and looking for a great Asian food experience, L’Quán is definitely worth...
