A place i was really looking forward too. I'm a fan of pubs and traditional german style food, and the outside looked promising. But when we got the card we saw the prices, but, oh well, if it's good. Unfortunately, the card didn't told us everything within the menu. I'm someone who is highly allergic to pork, and speck was never mentioned on the card with the potatoes. But when it came out, it was full with them. When i asked about it, in my best german (which is quite basic, but i really tried) if i could get the potatoes without speck, i got a 'you should've just said it before' and a huf.
So, if you would like traditional german food, this place is definitely a good one. But be prepared to pay for it and to be super clear about what you can't eat (even if it's not on the menu) or be someone who can have everything. Otherwise be prepared to be huffed and puffed at.
But for me, the waiter and service spoiled the whole experience and paying the amount i did felt almost like i was robbed, if it wasn't for my partner who did like it and ate the fried potatoes for me to not waste the potatoes.
A bonus point tho, their bathroom had a aray of 'freshing up' stuff, which, in my life of traveling around, i have never seen. From deo and hand cream to even...

English: We had a very unpleasant experience and a ever solidify impression that things changed at this place. We will not return nor refer this place. Go somewhere else, there is many good places nearby.
The food is just above average for Hamburg, so good. The location is cozy and the main room historic. However all the good is undone by the attitude and communication of the management. We have wittnessed this on several occasions in the restaurant already and this month had a very unpleasant interaction concerning an booking made that needed some unplanned but timely communicated changes. The owner was not willing to work out a sollution and prioritized short term profit over proactive problem solving.
Be advised the management/ownership changed post Covid, so reviews predating this are not...
Read moreAs the sun was setting we were strolling by the harbor and we stumbled on this amazing restaurant. I always try to find a restaurant with food giving a taste for the heart of the city. I am happy to say we did.
The menu stole our heart with each dish having such a unique description. Everything from the complimentary tasting spoons to our appetizers, main courses, drinks and dessert felt like elevated cuisine combined with my grandmother's home cooking. This really was German Soul Food!
My wife and I both agreed, we wished to have another stomach in order to try all the other courses. Our favorites were:
The steak tar tar, every bite was better than the next. We just couldn't get enough with the explosion of flavors combined with the truffle asparagus.
The weinerschnitzle had a savory taste of home cooking combined with the best potatos I have tasted in my life.
The dark chocolate cake combined with the citrus sorbet had our taste buds desiring to order another one right after. Its richness was delightful.
Can't wait to come back to our new favorite...
