When I travel to Hamburg I always do my best to get the benefits of my visit, so I often want to hit two birds with one stone: good coffee and good food. Since 2016 in Hamburg’s city centre, Nord Coast has been the right place.
Hamburg is well-known with a plenitude of well-regarded eateries in the neighbourhoods surrounding the city centre in particular and scattered all over the city in general.
Nord Coast was founded in 2015 on Deichstrasse. This café knows the specialty coffee skillfully when preparing each cup, whether you like an espresso, a cappuccino, a flat white or a V60. Watching the coffee process while waiting for your order is quite entertaining. It is clear that the baristas exploding with skills to make quality coffee. With beans from Guatemala, Honduras, and Kenya, the coffee menu holds a variety of tastes. Nord Coast roast the coffee beans on site and also sells packs of coffee beans in store should you wish to bring the flavours home.
For breakfast in this cafe, I always order the Vegan waffle without powdered sugar since I'm on a diet. The dish is a hearty portion and the waffle is cooked with the right amount of crisp. For brunch or lunch visit, you may try the scrambled eggs with porcini butter, turmeric chili cream, and parmesan on sourdough bread. This is a tasty dish, but I have to say that the waffle still wins over every thing else to me.
When it comes to pop in, Nord Coast is definitely popular in all three locations any day of the week. After 10am, it began to fill up quickly and during lunch time as well, so it might be a good to call and reserve a table before you show up. However, with good food , wonderful coffee an d a remarkable service, a long-line waiting is worth it.
Finally, Nord Coast is a non-questionable choice for your breakfast and lunch needs while visiting Hamburg. Located in the city center within 10 minutes walking distance from the Rathaus, Nord Coast is well placed to fuel before you start hopping around city. You might try the other locations at Eppendorfer Weg or the one...
Read moreDelicious food if you're willing to wait all day! Wondered why the short line moved so slowly until we were next to be seated...and watched an unreserved table remain empty for 20+ min until we were allowed to sit there. Loaned an extra menu to the people next to us when they were seated (they had waited in line behind us) only to be greeted by the server after them, ordered after them, received food after them, and paid after them...
The place is definitely understaffed, but also poorly staffed (one server/host for the entire restaurant and up to 5 others working the coffee/pastry takeaway counter which just had a steady trickle of customers). Arrived as the 3rd people/party of 2ppl in line just after 10am, sat by 11:15am (leaving about 18 people in line behind us), received food just after noon and were able to leave after paying the bill just before 1pm. Service not unfriendly, but never actually felt welcome dining there.
Food was delicious and clearly why people put up with the other shortcomings! Three dishes for 2 people was the perfect amount for our...
Read moreWe have been here one year ago and it was so much better than it was now. First of all, we ordered Kenya filter coffee and it supposed to be very acidic. Unfortunately our expectations didn’t meet reality. So we decided to ask waitress why it is not so acid. Unfortunately she didn’t even understand what acidity means and just said - oh sorry. While she could just ask barista why it is like this or offer us to change it for new one. Second of all, last year this place had such a great classic cheesecake. This time we went there and found out that cheesecake became sooooo small , looked like a cookie. And costed €3,20... not worth it at all anymore.
So we wish this place to be little bit more customer oriented and teach all employees at least something about coffee, especially when you position yourself as a Coffee place + Roastery and selling coffee beans. Additionally, I would suggest to offer customers bigger cheesecake for that high price.
We hope that next time we will be visiting Hamburg we could come again and see some...
