DO NOT GO HERE! My partner came back crying after paying and it ruined the rest of our night. WORST restaurant experience we have had in Europe.
After arriving at the restaurant, it was immediately obvious they were busy and very understaffed. That's okay, we understand this happens and it's not a major issue. After waiting a long time to order, the waitor PAVEL came to serve us. My partner is coeliac which is already bad enough and it comes with alot of added stress when finding places to eat. My partner asked Pavel if they had any gluten free options (we read they did on google) and he scoffed/laughed and walked away for 10 seconds before coming back. He then pointed out the options and we both ordered some of their potato dishes. This reaction was rude / unnecessary but thought it might have been his odd sense of humour. When our food arrived, my partner was given 2 boiled potatos, a small salad and a cream sauce- this cost 12 euro which is terrible value for money. My dish was roasted potatos and vegetables and while it was actually quite nice, it was also poor value for money at 15.50 euros.
Still this is not the reason we had such a bad experience, that came when my partner went to pay. Pavel said the total and then asked how much she wanted to tip (we had not overly enjoyed our experience because of slow service and already expensive prices so we did not want to tip). When my partner tried to refuse a tip, Pavel VERY rudely asked where she was from and said it was compulsorary. He then added 5 euros to the bill and forced us to pay. In hindsight we should have walked out but instead we paid and left the restaurant. My partner found this treatment very rude and started crying. We then tried to complain to a different serving staff and they took us back to Pavel who did not care at all for the complaint or that he had made my partner CRY. We had plans for the rest of the night but just went back to our hotel due to the terrible mood we were both in from this TERRIBLE treatment.
I rarely give bad reviews, but this is BY FAR the worst experience we have both ever had in restaurants. Please save yourself and...
Read moreYou pretty much could not enter the restaurant if you don't have a reservation. A ton of people were not let in, even if there were empty tables besides us.
We entered and were seated at the same time as 2 other couples. We had to wait so long for the server to come that we thought he forgot us and we had to call him a few times. One of the couple already had drinks served and the other even managed to get their food served before the server even came. They were severely understaffed.
We were set on the table closest to the door, which was very bad experience since every time someone entered, you could feel the cold wind. And of course we couldn't switch.
When the food came, they only brought one portion and forgot the second. We ordered potato pancakes with salmon and horse raddish. These were not even close to what was described as seen from the picture. Literally, the salmon was half of the dish, which I assume was there to only inflate the price. The potatoes were super generic and nothing special. And they were not even the majority of the dish. Which is saying a lot considering that this is a potato restaurant. While eating, we found not one, not 2, but 3 hairs in our food.
The wait and athmosphere were so bad we decided to just stop wating, pay and leave. We asked 3 times to pay and it still took 20 mimutes before the server came.
When he asked how the experience was, we shared the afformentioned. He did not even acknowledge it and compeletely ignored the hair problem. He then asked for a tip. We spend a few minutes saying that there will be no tip and he promptly tried to guilt trip us and was passive aggressive. We have been to quite a few restaurants in Germany, and none of them asked for a tip, but we still left some. But this has been the worst experince ever.
Summary: understaffed long time for even been asked what we want at least 3 pieces of hair in food server not even acknowledging the hair issue being guilt tripped to give a tip literally THE WORST RETAURANT EXPERIENCE, I've ever...
Read moreStarted with such high hopes for this place. Walked past on our way to miniatur wunderland and decided we absolutely had to go back. Cute logo, inviting outdoor seating, and gorgeous German potatoes. What could be better? Turns out, almost anything would have been better. We were seated after a minor debacle over the fact that we (a party of 3) didn’t have a reservation. Understandable. We were sat in the corner of a really cute basement; candlelight and a good atmosphere, but that was the only redeeming quality of this restaurant. Someone in my party had a gluten allergy, which when staff were told a waiter appeared and sat uncomfortably close to her and pointed out what she couldn’t eat. Fine. First the drinks came out. The beer brought to the table was listed to contain alcohol on the menu, but turned out to be 0%. Again, fine. We then proceeded to wait over an hour for food to come out, watching people who arrived after us get plates of what looked like pretty good food, so we waited. I got an Indian curry that was lacking flavour other than being overwhelmingly sweet and the turkey chunks in it were very dry but was still somehow the best of the bunch. My friend got potato dumplings with curry and mango sauce that can be best described as baby food, and my other friend got potato soup and paid extra for bacon. There were exactly 4 pieces of bacon in the soup. Gratuity was not included in an already overcharged bill and we weren’t going to add anything due to less than mediocre food and poor, quite frankly rude service staff, but our waiter proceeded to add a tip for himself anyways and then offer a lesson on how to tip. I’ve got a lesson: if you want a tip, stand up in a canoe. A very bad experience for our last night in Hamburg and a genuine...
