Willi's Hamburg - Sandwiches, Cafe — Restaurant in Hamburg

A beautiful interior (which we hope to be able to utilise soon) but also 2 tables outside. This seems to be a popular choice for those living/working in the area, as we arrived around 12.30pm and the vegan option was already sold out! There was a choice of bread and a lunch special with a drink of your choice and a packet of crisps. The sandwich combinations are interesting, which I have to say I struggled with a little. I can't eat any kind of fish, seafood or blue cheese, which ruled out 3 out of the 5 options. This left the vegan - sold out - which only left the pastrami option available to me. I think they could definitely use some other filling combinations or a 'make your own' from the sandwich bar. The menu on the window outside and at the tables also does NOT list the option of ordering only HALF a sandwich. Half was more than enough for me - so I felt I ordered a whole sandwich unnecessarily. If the server had asked 'whole or half' it would have been more helpful. The half a sandwich option is only listed on the menu on the wall inside - but would be good to have on the laminated menus also. Better than good!

The world of a super friendly, passionately serving gourmet (ex-restaurant-chef) who has perfected the seemingly simple but most tasty and delicious sandwiches and side dishes that have yet to be topped on my list of favorites in Hamburg!

The atmosphere is relaxed with a cool, contemporary vibe and nod to 90s nostalgia offering an arcade game and skatevideo-equipped TV to take you back to the dreams of your youth.

What perfected the experience for me was the great selection of hot sauces as additional spicing options!

Too bad that most of these ‘too good to be true places’ always fall prey to the hip crowd sooner than later which is great for the owner but always a bit dragging for the own enjoyment… sorry to sound egoistic here but you know the deal, we’re all humans ;)

If there was a place like this in my hometown Munich, I would come back every other day!
