The visit started off well. The welcome was smooth, and there was a lovely kids’ corner with coloring activities and drawings, supervised by two friendly women. That was truly a beautiful touch, and we appreciated it.

Unfortunately, things went downhill after that.

Once we received the menus, we waited 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order — despite the restaurant being far from busy (only 21 tables). I asked the staff about several dishes, but the answer was always, “I don’t know, just check the menu.” When I mentioned that some items were featured on Instagram, he replied, “I don’t know about that either. Just order from the menu.” At that point, I realized I wasn’t in a professional environment, and there was no one to help guide us with our choices.

We placed our order for food and drinks. The drinks arrived after 10 minutes. 47 minutes later, the food finally arrived. During the meal, I requested another Coke — which was never brought to the table, even after 30 minutes.

After finishing the meal, we waited another 25 minutes for the table to be cleared. I asked for the dessert menu, placed an order, and was told it would take 15–20 minutes. Over 30 minutes passed, and when I followed up, the staff member went to check and came back saying: “Sorry, your order was never placed.”

When the bill arrived, I was surprised to see the Coke that was never served had been added to the total. I pointed it out, and only then was the bill corrected.

Is this truly a place worth visiting? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

With all due respect — I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to anyone who asks.

EDIT TO ADD: After leaving our original reviews Daniel, the restaurant manager contacted us and invited us to return and give them a chance to try again. We returned and had a lovely dinner with wonderful, friendly service - thanks Daniel.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: We have been living in Heidelberg for over a year and have been waiting for a special occasion to try Neo. Last week I had a milestone birthday so my husband booked for us to go and take a guest who had come from Australia to celebrate with us. The food was delicious (as it should be at these prices) but the service was probably the rudest I have experienced anywhere in the world - and extremely slow. Very rude attitude, inattentive such as we tried to order more drinks and had planned to order at least 1 bottle of wine and desserts but the staff never came back, never gave us a wine or drinks menu and despite trying to get their attention we ended up giving up. Some of the young staff were friendly but the main wait staff - especially the bald waiter were unbelievably rude. Additionally although the outside terrace is lovely, you are essentially sitting in a construction area - we couldn't believe they didn't have more plants or some screens to block the piles of construction material which we looked out onto. Erlebnis mit Höhen und Längen – eine differenzierte Rückmeldung

Die Location ist ohne Übertreibung eine glatte Elf von Zehn. Selten habe ich ein Ambiente erlebt, das gleichzeitig so stilvoll, entspannt und atmosphärisch dicht war. Die Anmutung erinnerte an ein mediterran-urbanes Refugium mit feinem Ibiza-Flair, durchkomponiert, aber nicht bemüht. Empfang und Platzierung waren tadellos, der Einstieg ins Erlebnis makellos.

Kulinarisch begann der Abend mit einem hervorragend geschnittenen Carpaccio, aromatisch, fein marmoriert, perfekt temperiert serviert. Ein Einstieg, wie man ihn sich wünscht, handwerklich wie geschmacklich überzeugend.

Der Pulpo hingegen wirkte, bei aller Qualität der Soße, in Relation zum Preis etwas schmal. Ein einzelner Arm, in vier Stücke geschnitten, mag bei einem Degustationsmenü genügen. Bei einem Preis von achtundzwanzig Euro à la carte hätte ich mir entweder eine großzügigere Portion oder eine etwas aufwendigere Komposition gewünscht, etwa mit Beilagen, Texturkontrasten oder Aromenvielfalt.

Der Hauptgang teilte sich ebenfalls in zwei sehr unterschiedliche Eindrücke. Die Rehkeule, ein Schmorgericht, aufwendig gegart und klassisch angerichtet mit Kartoffelstampf und Gemüse, kam zwar geschmacklich solide daher, war in der Textur jedoch spürbar zu trocken. Die Formgebung mit Bindung und ausgelöstem Knochen war handwerklich korrekt, das Ergebnis aber leider etwas staubig, wie es bei Schmorstücken vorkommen kann.

Dafür war das Iberico-Kotelett eine echte Entdeckung. Zwar klein in der Portion, fast an Lamm erinnernd in der Größe, aber geschmacklich ein Hochgenuss, intensiv, zart, mit feinem Röstaroma. Der begleitende Salat mit Pfifferlingen rundete den Gang ab, ohne sich in den Vordergrund zu drängen. Ein Teller, der Lust auf mehr gemacht hätte.

Was leider nicht ganz zur kulinarischen Qualität passte, war die Wartezeit. Über fünfundvierzig Minuten auf den Hauptgang zu warten, ohne aktive Kommunikation seitens des Service, ist in dieser Preisklasse schwer zu vermitteln. Erst gegen Ende kam eine Entschuldigung mit dem Verweis auf hohen Andrang, der sich allerdings nicht ganz mit dem sichtbaren Gästeaufkommen deckte. Ein kurzes Es dauert heute etwas länger, wir bitten um Verständnis, nach dreißig Minuten hätte viel zur Entspannung beigetragen. Dass der Service sich am Ende bemüht zeigte, möchte ich dennoch ausdrücklich anerkennen.

Aufgrund der langen Wartezeit auf die Hauptgänge haben wir schließlich auf ein Dessert verzichtet, was wir bedauerlich fanden, aber unter den Umständen nachvollziehbar war.

Fazit: Ein visuell und atmosphärisch beeindruckender Ort mit kulinarischem Potenzial, besonders bei Fleischgerichten wie dem Iberico. Kleine Unstimmigkeiten bei Portionsgröße und Garpunkt wären leicht zu verschmerzen gewesen, wenn der Service transparenter mit Wartezeiten umgegangen wäre. Es war ein schöner Abend mit starken Momenten, der mit etwas Feintuning auf der Kommunikationsebene noch unvergesslicher hätte...
