Wirtshaus am Uniplatz — Restaurant in Heidelberg

We arrived at 20.20 on Monday 25/11/2024. The waitress recommended the Gulasch which was delicious as well the Nuremberg sausages and the schnitzel. Food was good and no complaints despite the wiener schnitzel we ordered tasted of cheese... At the end of the meal we had to wait long time for the same waitress (who was very busy cleaning the coffee machine and probably forgot about us) to come to remove our dishes despite we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant. Eventually we called her and we asked for the dessert menu but she said "Sorry the kitchen is closed (it was 21.15!)". We were both surprised and very disappointed as she just could have just asked, before the kitchen closed, if we wanted to order anything else. So no chance to get a dessert or even a coffee!! Just pay the bill! I work in hospitality as well and I consider this as a totally unacceptable behavior, typical of a staff member who cannot wait to go home and sees paying customers as a nuisance . I am staying with my sister in Frankfurt for the holidays and we took a day trip to Heidelberg yesterday. We had a leisurely and delicious German lunch. The Rahmschnitzel and the Butterspaetzle were superb with Paulaner Hell on tap! My sister had the Kaesespaetzle with salad and she enjoyed it thoroughly. Fabian, our server, was very friendly and provided excellent service, allowing me to continue practicing my German before revealing his excellent English as he had studied in the US. A perfectly cozy, authentic atmosphere in the middle of the Altstadt ... everyone around us was ordering Schweinshaxe, so it must be excellent! Highly recommend this place if this is your first time...

From the moment we walked into the restaurant without a reservation, we felt welcome immediately. The waiter was very friendly, and he spoke English to us throughout the meal. The food (steaks) was excellently cooked and tasted delicious. The service and the atmosphere really helped in making this a perfect evening experience.
