Toro Tapasbar — Restaurant in Karlsruhe

The place has a beautiful ambience, and seems to be always full or reserved, so make sure you book in advance. The food tastes good, but I wouldn't say it's something extremely out of the ordinary. I tried the chorizo, the croquettes and fried calamari, and the only thing that stuck with me was the calamari, it was very good, soft and came with aioli, as a perfect combo. The croquettes were ok, but you couldn't really tell what the filling was (there is supposed to be daily option with fish/meat). The service was good and fast. However, a big minus in my opinion are the prices, which for a tapas bar, are extremely high (for the warm ones around 8+ euros). You basically pay close or the same as a full meal would cost in another restaurant to get a tiny dish. I'm all up for tapas, but a more reasonable price to what they offer would be 5-6 euros max, with maybe a bit more for the seafood options. Paying 14.50 euros for a few shrimps in Panade is way...

The moment you arrive to the place you can smell the Spanish flavour. The place is fully decorated as a traditional Spanish tavern. The staff working there are super welcoming and friendly. Given the fact that is a tapas bar, the prices are quite high for such a dish, but most of the tapas are tasty. My top 1 has to be Boquerones en vinagre (not to be confused with the fried boquerones!). I do not recommend the Serrano ham though, you end up paying a fortune for cheap quality ham. FDP & Nein das soll hier kein billiges polit bashing werden - aber die Partei beschreibt das Restaurant ziemlich super. Warum? Viel Geld für mittelmäßige Qualität - ein auf Gewinnmaximierung ausgerichtetes Unternehmen, so wie die FDP es sich erträumt. Das Restaurant ist auch für eine Tapas-Bar hochpreisig (Konkurrenz in Karlsruhe ist günstiger) & trotzdem wurde der Raum gewinnoptimiert ausgeschöpft und mit so vielen Tischen vollgestellt, dass selbst die Bedienung kaum Platz hat durchzukommen. Diese war aber sehr nett, auch wenn sie unsere Brotbestellung regelmäßig vergessen hat & wir teilweise unsere Bestellung erst nach unserem Nachbartisch (welcher das gleiche nach uns bestellt hat) bekommen haben. Nun zum Essen: Teilweise lieblos angerichtet hatte bspw das Brot eher den Anschein von einem günstigen Aufbackbaguette als von einem hochwertigen Weißbrot & auch die anderen Speisen waren alle eher Basic, selbst das teuerste Gericht auf der Karte hat unseren Geschmack nicht getroffen. Auch hier hatte es den Anschein als würde nur das nötigste Serviert ohne eine Idee von Glanz oder Extravaganz. Auch das Bezahlen funktioniert nicht mit Kreditkarte (vermutlich ist da jemand nicht bereit die Gebühren zu tragen) - was eher untypisch ist und eigentlich zum Guten Ton dazu gehört. Fazit: Für 20-30% günstigere Preise wäre es ein gutes & faires Angebot, so aber wirkt es sehr danach als würde versucht das meiste Geld aus dem Angebot herauszuquetschen, da ist es auch nicht wirklich verwunderlich, dass der Besitzer Mitglied bei der FDP ist.
