This restaurant is excellent and I highly recommend it, just as it was recommended to us by residents of Leipzig as being the best restaurant in Leipzig. The surroundings are beautiful and clean and the food is of high quality, which was absolutely delicious. I had pork with pears and potatoes and my friend had pork with cabbage which was equally delicious. We were very happy to be eating traditional German food. We felt relaxed and really enjoyed ourselves. Our waitress was exceptionally professional and respectful, which made us feel like we really were in a top restaurant. The prices are very reasonable, so we were happy to have such good food and service. It was my friend's birthday, which I mentioned to our waitress and when she brought his dessert, the plate was decorated beautifully wishing him happy birthday and the waitress lit a candle. As I like healthy food I had a fruit salad for dessert, which was perfect. The only downside to our visit is that right outside the doors of the restaurant it smelt of cigarette smoke, which I can't stand, but unfortunately this is common in Germany as it still has smoking culture, with smokers who think it's ok to smoke outside entrances - Germans are slow to stop smoking in public places but hopefully this will change. The restaurant indoors is perfectly clean and smoke...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant because of feedback and we wanted to taste local and regional food, we had a table reserved for 20:00, we arrived at 19:36 and seated immediately, friendly and helpful staff, took drinks, starter and main course order. Starter arrived quickly, good portions and lovely flavour, however the time between starter and main was very long due to staff dealing with a large group of tourists, the family seated next to ours became agitated, at the time we didn’t worry. The main course arrived, again good portions and very delicious, when we finished we sat for a long time watching the staff clearing tables until we managed to attract the attention of the waiter, we asked for more drinks and dessert menu, when the waiter said this was a our last drink order we asked what time they closed, he stated 21:00 the time was now 21:05!. We decided not to order dessert as now it felt like we should leave, this was meant to be our last and special meal in Leipzig. To make matters worse on booking, on the door and on menu they state no “No Credit cards” we had a debit card, the waiter informed us we couldn’t use it, when we asked why he said it was because it was a Visa...... So if you are planning on dining here take cash or a non VISA or...
Read moreA restaurant with a rich history, delicious traditional German food and nice local beer.
I wasnt really a fan of onion soup, found it a bit too watery. I was hoping more of a creamy one.
The main dishes were very delicious. The local beer Gose also had an interesting taste that we didnt really expect. Very lime-y taste, almost like Radler but more sour and less sugary. Its a delicious light beer that would go well with a warm weather.
Our online reservation request for the same evening got rejected due to the booking out due to easter. So we decided to try it for lunch time by just going there, that worked well. If you are going for a dinner, I definitely recommend you to reserve a table a couple of days ahead -esp during holiday times.
Also plan your time a bit relaxed, as the service is not as fast. So definitely not a place for a quick dish, but rather for a long dinner with friends and family.
Compared to the other traditional German restaurants that I have visited in other cities, I found the prices to be also a bit too high here.
Still a recommendation for a unique local restaurant, to experience the rich history reaching to Goethe and to taste the nice...
