We had a delightful dining experience at Augustiner Am Markt. The presentation of the dishes was pretty fine as well as their flavors.

First, we ordered "Die Beste," a kross gebratene ganze HINTERHAXE vom Schweineschinken (crispy whole ham hock). The dish was beautifully plated with a golden, crispy exterior, served on a bed of Bayrisch Kraut (Bavarian cabbage). The meat was tender and juicy, contrasting perfectly with the crunch of the skin. The accompanying cabbage was well-seasoned and provided a lovely balance to the rich flavors of the hock. At 22.50 €, it was a great value for such a substantial and delicious dish.

Next, we enjoyed the Grobe AUGUSTINER BRATWURST, which consisted of two sausages served with creamy Kartoffelpüree (mashed potatoes) and tangy Sauerkraut. The sausages were perfectly grilled, with a satisfying snap and robust flavor. The mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery, while the sauerkraut added a delightful tartness, making this dish both hearty and comforting. Priced at 14.50 €. That dish may have a better presentation, but we liked it anyways.

Lastly, we tried the RÄUCHERLACHS on knusprigem Rote Bete Puffer mit frischem Meerrettich (smoked salmon on crispy beetroot pancake with fresh horseradish). The smoked salmon was delicate and rich, served alongside crispy beetroot pancakes that added a wonderful texture. The fresh horseradish provided a zesty kick. The dish was garnished with sliced lemon wedges (which from my perspective could be sliced a bit nicer). This dish was a visual and culinary treat, offering a unique blend of flavors and textures. However, for €17.90 I expected a bit more of salmon.

Throughout our meal, the service was excellent. Some dark hair foreign guy was serving us and he was extremely attentive and friendly, enhancing our dining experience. He gave us some advice regarding the local dishes. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating a comfortable setting for our meal. Of course, the selection of beer was superb, perfectly complementing the hearty German cuisine.

In conclusion, the restaurant offers a good combination of food and a great location. Whether you're craving traditional German dishes or looking for something with a modern twist, this restaurant delivers...

It was the first restaurant we went to as soon as we got to Leipzig after 18 hrs of travel across time zones. The hotel receptionist pointed us to a local favorite. Our first impression, very accommodating; friendly servers & employees, which is a rarity in Germany. The kitchen was closed by the time we were seated, after a few Deutsche exchanges between servers, they decide to serve us & the food did not disappoint. We ordered server recommended restaurant favorites- roast of pork, crisp whole knuckle of pork & Augustiner Beef Goulash. All were an excellent variety of our first Bavarian meal. The size & crisp/crunchiness was perfect, I would have personally loved some citrus/vinegar on the side option to help cut through the pork fat but hey, I was not going to break centuries old Bavarian tradition. So, down went a couple of recommended beers, which were light & crisp…a proper accompaniment to the foods we ordered. On our second visit, we ordered a light appetizer platter as we tried to relax after a full day of sightseeing, also excellent. I loved the meatballs & cheeses! Overall, it was an excellent experience, they do get busy on the weekends & things might feel rushed. Bring your patience along & you’ll absolutely...

Disappointing Experience Despite Good Food

My recent dinner here left me feeling quite let down, despite the food itself being enjoyable. While the dishes were indeed nice, they were unfortunately too large to finish, leading to unnecessary waste. The biggest issue, however, was the service. Despite the presence of English menus and numerous tourists, my experience with a specific waitress (short hair, tattoos) was highly unsatisfactory. When I tried to communicate, she claimed not to understand English, which was surprising and frustrating given the restaurant's apparent tourist-friendly setup.

The problems escalated when I asked to pay. The amount was higher than anticipated, and only after paying I received the actual bill. Upon closer inspection, I found a side dish had been charged twice. When I brought this to her attention and explained I hadn't ordered it, her response was dismissive and unhelpful: "my English is not good, sorry." There was no genuine attempt to rectify the error or offer a refund, leaving me feeling unfairly charged and thoroughly...
