Bar Tapas an der Uni — Restaurant in Munich

Do NOT visit this restaurant if you rely on accurate dietary information. I have coeliac disease (so need strictly gluten free food) so called in advance to check if that would be ok, and was told that allergens are all clearly marked and there are a selection of dishes that are fully gluten free.

On arrival I was initially impressed at the number of tapas dishes that were marked as not containing gluten, particularly some of the battered and fried fish dishes. I wasn't sure if there would be issues with cross contamination so asked about them, only to learn that the batter was made with wheat flour and they hadn't been labelled properly. On asking about some of the other tapas dishes one member of staff then produced a sheet which showed allergens, however this didn't match many of the displayed labels on the food, and another menu of staff took it away saying that it was incorrect (both of these also had discrepancies with the website, so there were 3 conflicting lists of allergens).

In normal circumstances I would have left due to the lack of confidence, however many people in my group had ordered already and one of the waiters double checked everything I was ordering to confirm it was gluten-free, so against my better judgment I chose a few places that were the least likely to have issues and still ate them. Sadly it turns out that was a bad move, as although they weren't made with gluten they must have had been contaminated based on the stomach cramps and issues for the next...

Went there for a friend's party. I was the first person to arrive and so I asked the waiter setting up a reserved table if it was reserved under my friend's name. Instead of helping me find out, he just said he doesn't know and that I have to ask someone else. Shouldn't waiters help with this kind of thing? Also the guy asked me to wait at the door instead of sitting at our reserved table saying one of them will come to me. I refused since he and I both know no one would.

Also when I ordered my tapas, he wanted to wait for everyone at our table to order before bringing our orders to the kitchen. Can't you just do what the customer wants?! Atrocious customer service. Food was salty too. I wonder why.. Never again. No...

Before the staff (middle-aged male) gave me the table, I told him we are 2ppl less than the reservation. He was so angry to hear that, said "I can't work with that!" in German, threw his pencil on the reservation book, then walked away to other 2 staff, pointed at me to complain "They booked 5 but now only 3 came. How am I supposed to work with that!" I was standing there, feeling so embarrassed like it's a terrible crime to have 2ppl less.

The food was ok and the staff later (young male) was quite nice to us. But overall speaking I will not come...
