A great place for a proper bavarian meal or just to enjoy a cold beer. The menu is traditionally bavarian and includes everything from snack platters, side dishes like Spätzle or fries to Schnitzel and other main dishes as well as popular deserts like Apfelstrudel. I can really recommend the „Portion Knusprige Schweinshaxe” as a main course if you are really hungry. The Hofbräukeller is located in one of Munich’s most beautiful districts called Au-Haidhauden, right next to the cozy Wiener Platz and not far from the river Isar. You can either dine inside the big restaurant or enjoy the fresh air in the Biergarten. Here you can order food and drinks outside under beautiful chestnut trees. Be sure to come early during the summer days. Because it can get crowded, since it is a quite popular Biergarten in that area. You can order beer either in 0,5l or in 1,0l glasses. After 4 pm though, you can only order Weißbier (wheat beer) in 0,5l glasses. After 4 pm, beers like Helles or even Radler (beer mixed with lemonade) are only available in 1,0l glasses called. They also have a bar outside if you fancy a cocktail or longdrink over a beer.

Very comfortable and beautiful restaurant with a "beer garden" outside, where you can sit and eat / drink in the open air. In general, my wife and I liked to eat here, but there are several unsatisfactory, in my opinion, things: There are unhygienic towels in the toilet. You need to pull the towel cloth, wipe your hands, which then tightens the mechanism like a seat belt (apparently sterilizing), and it's very uncomfortable with this approach. In public places such things should be disposable. I liked the ordered food, it was tasty, if I may say so for 85% of the taste of the most tasty dish that I tried in Germany for a vacation. But I did not like the lemonade that my wife ordered. It was a corny taste of sprite. I will not say that we were deceived, it would be unfair just in words, maybe they really just prepared it with such taste, but for all the time that I drank lemonade there never was such a taste anywhere. And I think that the portions are small.

OK traditional Bavarian medium-sized beer garden, can be quite packed and loud probably because it's in a backyard. A live band is missing though. It's half self-service, half tables with waiters. The space feels very tight, even during Corona measures. Seems like they want to cramp as many people as possible in there. There's definitely better places to go to for good atmosphere, especially since the crowd is comprising of many pretentious "posh" people. On the right side after the entrance there's the perfect place for that kind of people: a beach bar. In the back you'll find a playground area for kids and a special sweets booth. After 4 p.m. beer is only served in 1L mugs (!) which I find very pushy by the owners since all other traditional beer gardens I frequently visit let you choose whatever at any time. Easy to reach with public transport. Food quality is ok only, prices are average, serving Hofbräu beer.

Came to Hofbraukeller on our first night in Munich with a big family group. We squished into this long table, beer hall style. Service was great and we managed to order despite our bad attempts at German. Our waiter was very organized and had a great sense of humor! This was our first liter of hofbrau beer, even though there would be plenty more later in the week. I had a Bavarian salad which had fried sausage and pretzel croutons on top. It was nice to get some veggies in before our week of beer, pretzels, and potatoes. The dressing was really good and the sausage was delicious! My fiance got schnitzel which was ok. A little dry compared to other ones we've had. It was a great atmosphere and way to meet friends and spend our first night here!

My brother lives quite close to this lovely biergarten so again this time we came here on my first night back in Munich. The place is huge and absolutely packed in nice summer evenings but today it was quite alright and no long waits for food and drinks either. We had a couple of stones and I added a half crispy roasted chicken with a tapas size Bavarian sausage salad on the side. They really know their roasted chickens over here, it was perfectly spiced with amazingly crispy skin. The sausage salad (cold cuts in vinaigrette) was nice too just a tad oily maybe. All in all a great place and because of the playground and other activities for kids also quite the suitable option for families.

Typical german food with a modern touch. The food was very good, we had the Dreierlei Knödel, which are three different potato and bread dumplings, one with spinach, another with cheese and one with beets, served over a thick mushroom sauce, I really liked it, it’s nice that they have different Knödel options. We also had the Jungschweinebraten, which is a pork meat fillet over a tasty sauce, also with a potato Knödel, this dish was also super delicious, the meat was soft and the sauce very tasty. The place is super spacious and lots of natural light and a little bit more modern than other traditional Hofbräuhaus restaurants. Totally recommend if you want traditional food.
