I want to start by saying that this is BY FAR the best ice cream place in the city—and honestly, probably my favorite ice cream place ever. I’m completely obsessed with Jessas. For the past two years, I’ve been crossing the city every single weekend in the summer just to come here and have a nice moment in such a special place. That alone should tell you something. I never really took the time to write a review before—because, to me, it was just so obviously perfect that it didn’t feel necessary. But today, I randomly opened the reviews out of curiosity and was honestly a bit unsettled by some of the negative comments. So now I’m writing this. Because this place deserves better. Let’s start with the ice cream: it’s impeccable. And I don’t mean just the taste—although that alone would be enough. I mean the way the flavors are selected, the creativity behind them, the care that clearly goes into everything. They always have a whole range of special flavors that change practically every day. (I usually go Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—and there’s always something new). For me, one of the most delightful things about Jessas is exactly that: the surprise of discovering a new amazing flavor each time. It turns "grabbing an ice cream" into a whole event. Back to the taste: after two years, I’ve tried pretty much every flavor, and there isn’t a single one I wouldn’t eat again. All fresh, all delicate, all clearly made with care. Now, I read someone complaining that it was “too sweet”… That makes no sense. Of course "Weiße Schokolade mit Pistazie" (my all-time favorite, by the way) is sweet. It’s white chocolate. What exactly were you expecting? If you’re looking for something less sweet, just pick a different flavor—there are tons. That’s kind of obvious. No need to trash the whole place over a flavor mismatch. About the price: it's €2.70 per scoop, with only some few flavors, like Pistazie (pur) and Haselnuss (pur) considered “premium” and therefore a little more expensive. Yes, it’s not €1.50—but let’s be serious. The guy behind Jessas has been making ice cream for over 40 years and continues to come up with exceptional new things. Meanwhile, Ballabeni is charging €2.60. Any basic Italian-style gelateria in Maxvorstadt is easily €2.50. Even Verrückter Eismacher (and it honestly pains me to even mention that in the same sentence as Jessas) will charge around €2.5. And you’re complaining about €2.70 at Jessas? Please... That’s just unfair. Same with the size of the scoops: totally normal. I always get two scoops—plus the mini scoop they give you to try another flavor—and I’m honestly more than satisfied afterwards. Maybe the ice cream is just so good that people get sad when it’s over and come here to complain. That’s the only explanation I can think of. As for the vibe: from the countless times I’ve been here, I’ve always been treated well. The staff is kind, the people around are great, the place is cozy and relaxed, and the location right next to the Isar makes it even better. There’s genuinely nothing to complain about. And now, to the local guides leaving weird bad reviews. Honestly, seeing Jessas rated 4.3 while some overhyped Italian-wannabes sit comfortably at 4.7 is just... no. That’s not only inaccurate, it’s a complete disservice. Almost offensive to actual Italians. If you’re going to critique a place, at least take the time to do a fair comparison—rather than dropping some lazy negativity into the review section. I could go on forever here... Just stop reading and go there try it!!

So tasty ! 2 scoops for 5€. The best ice in the surrounding. I had one scoop pistachio and one white chocolate pistachio in the waffle cup to avoid ice going all over down when it melts in such a hot day. It's famous for locals but the line goes fast. They have here large lovely sitting area but not real sun shades so we preferred to go on the Isar to catch some freshness. They have some vagan flavors and it's also a good coffee place. I really recommend this ice place and they are also in Müllerstr. but I prefer this one to go after that to the Kulturstrand 10 min walk from here or the lovely romantic Westermühlbach bridge.

One of the, if not THE BEST ice cream establishment in Munich!

Similar as the situation with pizza, there are plenty of great options for ice cream in this city. Perhaps the proximity to Italy is the cause, "Monaco di Baviera" is by some accounts after all considered Italy's most northern city, albeit not even sharing a border. I digress.

Back to the ice cream, and specifically that beautifully perfection daily prepared by Renato at Jessas Eis. Although not exclusively so, most of their flavors tend to be smooth like gelato. There's usually a few vegan options and sorbets, as well as a rotation of temporary flavors (like "Zuppa Inglese", an italian sponge cake; or the smooth "Schwarze Sesam", from black sesame paste that's aaalmost a savory treat, rather than sweet) that keeps selections interesting even if you, like many regulars, come by more than once a week.

Their usual lineup is, of course, great: chocolate, chocolate sorbet, red fruits, yoghurt with pomegranate, stracciatella, salted caramel, pistachio and hazelnut; are all fantastic.

The reason I put them on top of my list is through thorough testing, in particular by bringing friends with to my different favorites. Jessas is the one where everyone always leaves happy, and what more could one ask from a hole-in-the-wall, ice...

Schade!
