Aiming to be a Boulangerie, Cafe and Bistro multiplex is no small challenge. And here at Les Deux Messieurs, in the French district of Haidhausen, we have a few problems to overcome. As we approach their 5th anniversary they still haven’t found the service structure necessary to run this 3-in-1 enterprise.
So, what’s not so good: well, too few staff (yes) too few well-trained staff (yes) too unyielding management (yes, yes). No matter how good the ingredients are, if the staff (including management) are lacking in the areas described, the result will inevitably be (and is) an overwhelmed kitchen which translates to hurried-worried and frustrated servers, long delays and could-be-better food. Is this the French vibe you’re after? A few too many, exaggerated and somewhat lame, performance excuses here for a 5-year old establishment.
Until they sort themselves out I would recommend sticking with their takeaway options: coffee, sandwiches, breads and pastries, some of which are quite good (pain aux raisin). Their prices are in line with everybody else in the area, just very unsatisfactory given their service and dine-in experience.
I have tried passing on my experience to staff and directly to management though this always seems to fall on deaf ears. Their email responses go something like this : “….we’re are truly, deeply, sincerely, heartbrokenly, devastatingly sorry that your visit … was such a frustrating and disappointing experience. It’s absolutely unacceptable….we genuinely appreciate your patience and feedback and once again we sincerely apologize. Oh, and have a free croissant at your next visit.…”
I could go on, but I think you get the idea. No, I will go on, as I am sure they will appreciate my explaining in their behalf the context as to why there are so many issues and unhappy customers. The renovations! The renovations! The renovations!
Their recent (about 8-months ago! ) renovations are welcomed, a more cosy feel yet with plenty of good lighting and a better layout. Apparently, all problems at Les Deux Messieurs have been caused by a terrible force majeure, otherwise know as their improvements and makeover (renovations!).
Please, no more excuses. A generous 3-stars for now, and will return a few more times to see if I should change the review, fair’s fair.

Read moreUnfortunately, I need to write a disappointing review. I have been visiting the cafe for a year and a half. I remember how much we liked the food and how delighted I was with the almond/marzipan croissant. I remember going there several times a week to eat the delicious almond croissant. It was truly the most delicious croissant I have ever had. After a while, I had to move to another area and over the past six months I have only been in a few times. There are often no big assortments after 3 p.m. I finally got an almond croissant but its ingredients have changed. Now there is a huge layer of sugar with marzipan that even crunches on your teeth! It is awful and super sweet. Why make such a huge sugar filling that it squeaks on theeth because the granulated sugar has not even dissolved in the marzipan. You can see the light shine in the photo, it is all sugar. if you need to reduce the product consumption, that is, save money, then keep the quality of the filling, but do it in less quantity! this is a disappointing story, I am not even ready to go back anymore and waste my time for the such disappointing experience. Unfortunately, for the first time I didn't even eat half of yours croissant. I also don't understand why there is chocolate in it. I must say that the staff in the bakery and coffee machine area are very nice and friendly, but some of the waiters are quite rude and arrogant. The cappuccino is soft and nice, but it's more of a latte macchiato because it has a lot of milk. I will look for new delicious croissants in other...
