Backyard cafe GmbH — Restaurant in Munich

I had lunch here with a friend a few days ago. The last time I was here must have been 25 years ago. It hasn't changed much, if at all. The world and Munich, though, have changed a lot over the past 25 years. It's 2023 now, get a card machine and start taking card payments. The 1970s called and want their cash register back. Also, breakfast. The menu is basically the same as 25 years ago. Trouble is, I'm not. Where are the vegan options? The same goes for the main menu. Although the daily specials menu did feature some dishes that could have been vegan, the regular menu essentially only offers salads and a bread with sliced tomatoes. I salute the café for providing a constant in a changing city. It's still a lovely place to come for a coffee and to read a book or the paper, but that's about it. We had breakfast there on Sunday morning with #Bigfoot and #Littlefeet and friends. Super service, delicious breakfast and fruity incl. delicious espresso. To top it all off, a young man entertained on the piano. The Hinterhof Café is unassuming and is actually located in a backyard. It is simple and has an outdoor seating area in summer. The food, morning or noon, is delicious and fresh. The prices are absolutely ok by Munich standards. Anyone who wants to have breakfast in the area should have been here. The café is highly recommended! It is also easy to reach and only a 10-minute walk from the Ostbahnhof, for example. Tip: please call ahead and ask if you can make a reservation. We couldn't on Sunday morning, so of course we were there before...

Chaos pur. Wir saßen direkt hinter der Theke und haben erstmal Ewigkeiten warten müssen, bis uns jemand bedient. Abbestelle Einzelteile des Frühstücks (z.b das Ei) wurde dennoch gebracht, was an und für sich nicht so schlimm ist. Jemand aus der Runde hat es gegessen. Das Ei sollte ein weichgekochtes sein und kam als hartgekochtes an. Das andere Ei, welches bei dem anderen Frühstück dabei war, kam in einer ganz komischen Mischung aus beidem an. Die Servicekräfte waren sichtlich überfordert und nur Eine hatte dort den Überblick - alles alleine managen für sie nicht möglich. Der Kracher: eine großköpfige Familie saß hinter uns, welche schon fast zu Ende gegessen hat, als wir ankamen. Die Familie hat irgendwann bezahlt (wobei sie zur Theke laufen musste - genauso wie der Rest der Kundschaft) und ist gegangen. Nach einer halben Stunde war der Tisch immer noch nicht geräumt und es wurde nur noch mehr dreckiges Geschirr daraufgestellt. Selbes an dem Tisch neben uns. (Nachdem wir gezahlt haben - ca. 1h waren die Tische noch immer nicht leer geräumt. Es hat die Wespen angezogen, welche um unsere Köpfe rum geflogen sind. Nicht ganz so toll. Zu dem hatte man von unseren Platz aus in die Theke eine perfekte Sicht, wo man das Chaos sehr gut beobachten konnte. Von den Themen, wie das wir kein Besteck hatten oder dass die Hälfte von unserem Frühstück gefehlt und erst nach Nachfrage kam, war der Pianist viel zu laut in dem kleinen Raum. Der Pianist hat super gespielt (gar keine Frage), dennoch sollte das Klavier mal neu gestimmt werden für die Akustik des Raumes. Ansonsten freundliches Personal bis auf der Herr (wahrscheinlich Chef/Inhaber), welcher sehr unfreundlich war und kaum Unterstützung zu seinem Team gezeigt hat. Fazit: Zwei von uns hatten am Ende Kopfweh und empfanden Übelkeit von den Milch-/Eierprodukten. Bei Bezahlung des Frühstücks tauchten zwei weitere Essen auf, welche nicht von uns kamen. Der Service, wie oben schon gesagt, ist maßlos überfordert und das kostet der eigentlich rustikalen Atmosphäre...
