Türkenhof — Restaurant in Munich

Der Name Türkenhof erscheint einem heute etwas eigenwillig. Unabhängig von der eigenen Einstellung wäre es die Betonung, die dem Wort "Türke" seine jeweilige Bedeutung verleihen könnte und gerade in einer Zeit der politischen Neuausrichtung dieses Landes, geht einem dabei vieles im Kopf um. Tatsache ist aber auch, dass bis dato sehr viele Münchner in der Türkei ihren Urlaub verbrachten und sich gerne an die Herzlichkeit und Gastfreundschaft der "Türken" erinnern - und dies nicht nur in deren Heimat. Die Namensgebung der Türkenstraße  geht indes auf das Jahr 1812 durch königliches Reskript zurück. Kaum vorstellbar, dass es zur damaligen Zeit viele Mitbürger gab, die türkischen Landsleuten begegnet sind. Die Namensgebung geht der Vermutung nach auf die angebliche Beteiligung türkischer Kriegsgefangener am Bau eines Bewässerungsgrabens zurück.  Ziel war es, die umliegenden Schlösser per Kanalsystem mit der Residenz zu verbinden. Als man den geschaffenen Kanal wieder zuschüttete, wurde der so entstehende Verkehrsweg Türkenstraße genannt und diese wiederum war wohl der Grund, diese Gaststätte als Türkenhof zu bezeichnen. Wir glauben, dass man lange Zeit, weniger sensibilisiert als heute, nicht groß darüber nachdachte - als Kind machte man sich auch über den "Sarotti-Mohr" keine Gedanken. Unabhängig von der Namensgebung ist der Türkenhof, trotz der gewaltigen Wandlung in diesem Teil von Schwabing, sich und damit seinen Gästen immer treu geblieben. Geholfen dabei hat sicherlich die Nähe zur Universität, wodurch Studenten einen gehörigen Teil der Wohnbevölkerung stellen. Egal, wie es um das Elternhaus bestellt ist, schätzt man die unkomplizierte und gemütliche Atmosphäre hier und ist froh darüber, dass man neben dem ausgezeichneten Augustiner Bier ganz ordentlich zu vernünftigen Preisen Speisen kann. Auch diejenigen, die ansonsten für den Wandel im Viertel eine Mitverantwortung tragen, wissen diese Atmosphäre zu schätzen - da es den Türkenhof noch gibt und dies bitte auch noch sehr lange so bleiben möge, ist dies aber lediglich eine Randnotiz und keine Ironie der Geschichte. Regardless of one's own attitude, it would be the accentuation that could give the word "Turk" its respective meaning, and especially in a time of political realignment in this country, a lot of things go round in one's head. But it is also a fact that many Munich residents have spent their holidays in Turkey and remember the warmth and hospitality of the "Turks" with pleasure - and not only in their home country. The naming of Türkenstraße, however, dates back to 1812 by royal decree. It is hard to imagine that there were many fellow citizens who encountered Turkish compatriots at that time. The naming presumably goes back to the alleged involvement of Turkish prisoners of war in the construction of an irrigation ditch. The aim was to connect the surrounding castles to the residence via a canal system. When the canal was filled in again, the resulting traffic route was called Türkenstraße and this in turn was probably the reason for calling this restaurant Türkenhof. We believe that for a long time, less sensitised than today, people didn't give it much thought - as a child, they didn't even think about the "Sarotti-Mohr". Regardless of the name, the Türkenhof has always remained true to itself and thus to its guests, despite the enormous changes in this part of Schwabing. The proximity to the university, which means that students make up a large part of the resident population, has certainly helped. No matter what the situation is, people appreciate the uncomplicated and cosy atmosphere here and are happy about the fact that, in addition to the excellent Augustiner beer, they can eat quite properly at...

This is a nice place. It is in a very busy and youthful area of Munich but still accommodates old fogies like me amicably. Has a small outside eating / drinking area and the interior is bigger than expected with nice niches for you to get entrenched. A couple of games tables satisfy the younger mood and the toilets were spotless though dated - however the Gents had the funkiest hand drier I’ve seen in ages 😁 (see the photo). Recommended? Hell yes. Staff were very accommodating and it’s only 7 -8 min walk from Universitat on the U3 and U6 lines. I’ll be back. Didn’t eat there this time so no food...

This is like, the quintessential "local" where you can just chill, enjoy an Augustiner, and really not worry about much. It's cosy and welcoming. There's plenty of space and decent prices. All the things you want from your neighborhood establishment!

I'd give it 5 stars because I like it that much, but it's not really a 5-star kind of place is it? It's more of a 4-star kind of place. Totally adequate, and you'll have a good time, but you're not gonna like, freak out about how great it is, or take pictures of the food or anything.
