Hotel Wolf Restaurant — Restaurant in Oberammergau

So, the first experience of racism in Germany. We requested to be seated facing the village square, just so we could experience the atmosphere. We were then told we could sit by the side, as there were no tables available, by one server. After being seated there for about five minutes, another server comes up to us and tells us they’re no longer serving that side of the restaurant as it’s closed. We then walk back to the side facing the village square and a couple occupying a table is about to leave. We request the previous server if we could be seated there. She responds, rather condescendingly, “is that the only table you can eat your food at and not any other??”. I reply letting her know that her colleague mentioned the other section is closed, to which she expresses surprise. Guess these folks haven’t seen colored folks before and there’s no way she would’ve treated white folks like this. She was pretty much smiling at the rest of the other white folks around (FYi- we were the only people of color at the restaurant!!). Guess racism is alive and kicking here! We walked out, as this restaurant wasn’t going to be a beneficiary...

Two adults ate here late on a Wednesday afternoon in early May and thought it was OK but not up to the good reviews on this site. We ordered the Wurstsalat with cheese meal but were dismayed that it was a cold meal. There was no indication of this on the menu and our waitress did not say anything. The meal was Ok but not great and was mostly the wurst slices which were good but too much meat and not enough side dishes. The total for the 2 meals plus small coffees was 34 € less tip. Also, it turns out that we were there before the evening meals were being prepared. Wir sind aus der Not und von Hunger getrieben im Restaurant des Hotel Wolf gelandet - Bevor wir uns entschieden haben, haben wir die Bewertungen oberflächlich gecheckt - ab einer Bewertung von 4,5 macht man in der Regel nichts falsch. Diese Regel müssen wir nach unserem Besuch leider gründlich überdenken.

Meine Vorspeise - eine Gulaschsuppe - war okay. Gulaschsuppe schmeckt aber auch irgendwie immer einigermaßen.

Als Hauptspeise hatten wir ein Wiener Schnitzel + Beilagensalat und kalbsfleischküchle mit Pfifferlingen und Kartoffel-Vogerlsalat. Letzteres Gericht war eine einzige Masse - die Komponenten waren schwer auseinander zu halten - das hat nicht nur unappetitlich ausgesehen, sondern hat auch dafür gesorgt, dass das Fleisch den Salat zu stark erwärmt hat. Im Kartoffel Vogerl (=Feldsalat) war kein Feldsalat zu finden. Die Fleischküchlein waren von Gummi-artiger Konsistenz. Der Beilagensalat hatte braune Stellen und war mit dickflüssigen Fertig-Dressing benetzt. Das Fleisch des Wiener Schnitzels war zwar zart, die Panade war eines Wiener Schnitzels nicht würdig - für 26,50€ erst recht nicht - die Panade war in keinster weise souffliert und null knusprig - Panade war mit Fett voll gesaugt (fett zu kalt ?) Das hört und liest sich alles kleinlich - aber bei 26,50€ für das Schnitzel (exklusive Salat)erwarte ich etwas anderes. Und mit der Lage kann man nicht auf den Preis argumentieren, denn wir haben im selben Zeitraum und in der Nähe traumhafte Schnitzel zum gleichen Preis bekommen :-)

Fazit:

Kein totaler Reinfall, aber es ist einfach ärgerlich, wenn man weiß, dass man für ähnliches Geld in anderen Restaurants der Region Essen bekommt, in das wirklich Liebe gesteckt wird.

Es scheint, als wäre der Laden auf die maximale Effizienz zur Bewirtung von Touristen ausgelegt - Gäste, die die Kulinarik des Landes oder der Region nicht kennen oder die einfach als einmalige Gäste abgestempelt werden ohne Aussicht auf einen...
