Pizzeria La Grappa — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Gengenbach

Was a little hesitant to visit after reading reviews and seeing negative responses on service but glad I went!

The food that I had (The Palrimo pizza and Campari Soda) were both excellent. On the pizza side, the crust was thin but with a nice center with a crisp outside but softer center. The proportions on toppings was a great balance, and the flavors combined well! Everyone also seemed to be enjoying their food as well! The portions are also quite large, with even the small pizza (they offer two, I ordered the smaller) being more than enough for one person. Also they have a lot more pizza options than I see in current photos, id estimate between 30-40 different pizzas.

On therl service front, I can somewhat understand where some of the reviewers had issues. First, not knowing any german may make like difficult. As Gengenbach is a smaller town in Germany, most people (that I've encountered anyway) have a limited vocabulary in English, which isn't surprising, but can make ordering difficult. I have limited skill with German but was able to get by with my broken conversational phrases (and quick glances at Google translate) so its not a major issue. In addition, I refrained from even trying to use English so they know more than one expects. People may also have better results with Italian or French given the region but can't say for sure. Also on service, I wouldnt call any behavior I encountered rude, though some is definitely different than what one may be used to. One of my two servers was very direct and to the point, and didnt really offer any recommendations when I asked, instead simply offering a shrug. I've known some restaurants to refrain from doing so, as some view that the entire menu is recommended, that's why it's on the menu, so I understand. Also it takes a bit more than simple quick eye contact to alert the server that you need something, but wouldn't say it's rude, they are just letting you eat. Overall, the staff were nice and courteous, even if a bit different from what I am accustomed to.

As for atmosphere, it's a very cozy and warm place, great for night of good food and drinks with friends!

Wir haben ein Tisch für 6 Personen bestellt und wir wurden nicht rein gelassen, weil angeblich nicht reserviert wurde. Die Bedienung war unfreundlich. Das Resultat war, dass wir nicht rein durften.

Lügen tun Sie jetzt auch noch. Der Test war von den zwei Mitmenschen nicht älter als 36 Stunden alt. Der Test wurde freitags um 11 Uhr gemacht und samstags Abends um 19 Uhr war die Reservierung. Als wir ankamen mussten wir aufgrund der 3-G- Regel draußen warten, bis die Bedienung kam. Wir zeigten den Impfpass und den negativ Test vor. Die Dame und der Herr mit dem angeblich ungültigen Test, der nicht älter als 48 Stunden gewesen ist, wurde der Eintritt verweigert mit der Begründung, dass der Test nur 24 h gültig sei und nicht 48 h, wie von dem Inhaber hier behauptet. Danach ging die Bedienung rein um nachzufragen, wie wir das regeln könnten, laut ihrer Aussage, und kam dann mit dem Reservierungsliste wieder zurück und sagte uns, dass wir nicht gelistet sind. Nachdem ich sagte, dass alle 6 Teilnehmer bei dem Telefonat für die Reservierung gegenwärtig gewesen sind, musste ich mir noch von der Bedienung anhören, dass ich aufgebracht sei und sie auch deswegen nicht mehr mit uns reden wolle. Als sie noch sagte sie würde für uns nach einer Lösung schauen und müsse sich dann noch mit verärgerten Menschen rum schlagen, erwiderte ich, dass die Lösung darin bestehe uns weg zu schicken. Daraufhin kam die Bedienung uns entgegen, in dem Sie uns sagte, dass wir uns im Lidl einen Schnelltest kaufen und in einer halben h wieder kommen sollten. Viel mehr vermute ich, dass kein Platz für 6 Personen frei gewesen ist und deswegen wollte man es auf die Gültigkeit des Tests schieben, welcher definitiv nicht älter als 48 h gewesen ist. Für mich hat sich das Thema jetzt erst recht erledigt. Erst die Kunden wegschicken wollen, weil der Test älter als 24 h war aber nicht älter als 48 h und dann die Situation so darstellen, dass der Test älter als 48 h alt gewesen ist. Sagt für mich viel über die Persönlichkeit und Philosophie dieses Restaurants aus. Bevor Sie ihren Kunden einer falschen Darstellung bezichtigen, sollten Sie lieber schauen, dass Sie bei der Wahrheit bleiben. Ist ja logisch, dass es Menschen gibt, die sich das nicht gefallen lassen. Sie können mir auch glauben, dass wir nicht die einzigen Personen sind, die...

A restaurant with a wide variety of pizzas. I had a veggie one — it was delicious and exactly as expected. It won’t win the prize for pizza of the year, but it was definitely enjoyable.

I would recommend the owners remove the table next to the toilet entrance. It’s awkwardly placed, and the constant traffic from people going in and out of the restroom can be disturbing. If you want your guests to feel comfortable, avoid seating them in that area.
