Goldalm — Restaurant in Wuppertal

Good place. Good ambiance. Unsuitable music. Highlight: super salty Haxenpfanne from the lunch menu and a quite impolite server for our table. When we told her that the Haxe was very salty, she said that may be from the Sauerkraut—which actually tasted LESS salty. Anyway, she offered to excange it. Since today is my husband's birthday, I want him to dine not only heartily but also healthily due to his cancer. She came back saying it's normal to be that salty, just like any other Haxe—which means we are the odd ones for complaining. In fact, we have had it several times in several places. Nevertheless, we were offered another menu that we didn't want, because it was the Haxe that drew us in to begin with. So we decided to see ourselves out.

On the way to the door, she stopped us because we ate the potatoes too—which is to be expected after consuming a super salty food, obviously one would need another to appease that—and thank God fully after my husband explained, and she had taken a look at my expression, she decided to put it off the table and let us go without having to pay. It left a bad impression on me, and I hope this review is going to be considered as a future reference for the betterment of the restaurant. What matters is not simply the end result (being 'let free'), but the process of what happened in between.

I would suggest the particular menu for people with a high affinity to salt. My husband said he hasn't eaten anything that salty in some very long years. That aside, feel free to try the other menu in the restaurant. As mentioned in another review, the toilet is well equipped. Warm water for handwashing, a room for changing diapers—right next to the men's toilet, so be careful not to enter wrongly as I did—and a vending machine for smokers. TLDR: I ended up here after a local friend said I should check out the beer and Bavarian food the Goldam offers guests. I liked the place and believe the interior designer did a great job. The Goldalm is a laid-back bar and restaurant right in the heart of the City. The décor has a fun vibe and feels friendly and open inside. It's a great spot to kick back with a drink and taste Bavarian food.

I discovered the Goldalm thanks to a local friend who insisted I check out their renowned beer and Bavarian food. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the inviting atmosphere—a cosy and vibrant bar and restaurant nestled right in the City's bustling heart. The décor is a delightful blend of quirky and traditional, with warm lighting that enhances the relaxed vibe. The overall interior design is an excellent exercise of style and functionality. The restroom door's handles deserve a design award. The spacious interior lets you settle in comfortably, making it the perfect spot to unwind.

As I sipped on a cold beer from Munich, I savoured the rich flavours of authentic Bavarian dishes, like the massive Schweinshaxe. The crispy crust and the yummy meat make this dish unique. I had to surrender to the generous portion and couldn't finish it.

Anfänglich waren wir von der "Goldalm" an sich, d.h. dem Service und dem Ambiente noch angetan, was dann aber im Laufe des Abends vehement nachliess. Es waren mehr und mehr Tische besetzt und man merkte, dass gut zu tun war. Aber, es war definitiv nicht voll und viele Tische tranken nur etwas und hatten kein Essen bestellt. Ergo sollte es eigentlich noch sehr gut machbar sein ALLEN Gästen die in der heutigen Zeit unentbehrliche Aufmerksamkeit zukommen zu lassen. Jedoch, selten fühlten wir uns so ignoriert. Wir saßen 20-30 Minuten vor unseren leeren Gläsern währenddessen am Nebentisch zweimal eine Servicekraft stand, um einerseits die Bestellung aufzunehmen und andererseits die Getränke zu servieren. Keine Reaktion uns gegenüber... null Beachtung... wir wurden schlichtweg nicht mehr als Gast wahrgenommen. Nach den letzten 5 Minuten, die wir noch abwarten wollten, baten wir um die Rechnung. Auf unser Feedback, dass wir gerne die Rechnung hätten nachdem man uns gekonnt aus dem Weg ging und vollkommen ignorierte obwohl wir noch ein Dessert gegessen hätten, wurde zero reagiert. Ein "Das ist mir ziemlich egal" hat noch gefehlt, aber bekannterweise sagt auch die Körpersprache so einiges aus und es war sehr offensichtlich, dass wir als Gast nicht willkommen sind. Erstaunlicherweise wurde innerhalb von zwei Minuten abgerechnet, aber ohne Beleg. "Ich komme auf EUR 105.90." - auf unser Feedback, dass das schön wäre, aber der Beleg fehlt, wurde auch nicht wirklich reagiert. Schlussendlich haben wir die Rechnung dann noch bekommen und konnten nachvollziehen, ob zumindest korrekt abgerechnet wurde. Des Weiteren wurde die zum Hauptgang extra bestellte Sauce komplett vergessen und auf unseren Kommentar beim Abräumen, dass man diese nun auch nicht mehr bräuchte, wurde auch 0.0 reagiert. Wie gesagt, der Satz, dass sie sowieso froh wären, wenn man gehen würde, wäre wenigstens ehrlich gewesen, aber es kam nichts und vor allem nicht einmal eine "Entschuldigung", null, nada, niente. Zu zweit für einen doch höheren Betrag zu konsumieren, ist wohl eher selten, aber das Bewusstsein, dass die Gäste diejenigen sind, die im Endeffekt die Löhne zahlen, ist wohl noch nicht da... naja, sind hier Hopfen und Malz bereits verloren. Wenn das Servicepersonal so weiter macht, definitiv. Es ist für die heutige Zeit in der man nur hört wie schlecht es der Gastronomie geht, ein Armutszeugnis. Oder die "Goldalm" kann es sich leisten den ersten Eindruck bei ihren Gästen zu vernichten und ist nicht auf die Kaufkraft angewiesen - DAS können und wollen wir nicht beurteilen. Ansonsten ist der Laden selber super schön, top eingerichtet und stilvoll. Man merkt, dass Geld in das Lokal investiert wurde, aber Leute, investiert dann auch in euer Personal - DAS ist das A und O! Sobald man sich als Gast als Belastung oder lästiges Übel fühlt, läuft etwas ganz...
