I used to brag about this restaurant to anyone who would listen but that has alll changed. The pizza I can not lie is still very good but the other items and freshness of the seafood is pretty bad. Any seafood item has such a pungent odor. A few weeks ago I went to dinner with my brother and and complained to the manager that the server was exiting the kitchen with his pants unfastened. He was zipping his pants and fastening his belt while walking out of the kitchen. I asked another waiter if there was a washroom inside the kitchen he said there wasn’t. I honestly was so disgusted I lost my appetite. Today I went to Tomato again against my better judgement and decided to try the rice dish with chicken. I swear to God ! It was the worst rice I’ve ever had in my life!!!( I literally eat out every single day FYI) I asked my brother to try it to confirm. He had to spit it out. I sent it back, telling the waiter “ this was the worst rice I’ve ever had “ . When the waiter informed the owner he was upset. This was mind boggling to me. I’ve spent thousands at Tomato. I arrived starving, if anyone should be upset it should be me! I noticed the rice was still on the bill so I walked up to him to ask why it was, and he said with an attitude and his face scrunched up. “ you didn’t have to say it’s the worst rice you’ve ever had “ . I can say whatever it is I want to say. I never insulted any of the staff. I simply stated a fact. Customer service is a struggle in Accra so I’m not surprised at this . My point however is that as Ghanaians in Ghana we seem to believe that because an establishment is foreign owned its better. But that is not the case. It truly is time for us to support businesses owned by people who look like us. And if not at least by people...
Read moreLong weekends in Accra mean a lot of eating and socializing so meeting up with some of my favorites over lunch was to be expected. What wasn’t however was everyone walking out of that restaurant completely satisfied and without a single complaint. The restaurant was clean, colorful yet coordinated and the energy it exuded was both happy and serene due to the place setting and the location. My table was wiped down the minute I sat down and I was given some sanitizer to disinfect my hands. I noticed that this was repeated every time someone walked in. I was given the menu (I didn’t see them clean this before they handed it to me but I’d like to believe they did). The menu was simple and straight to the point and I truly appreciated that because some restaurants carry thesis papers as menus these days. We were able to decide what we each wanted to eat in seconds. The fried seafood we shared as starters was simply divine. And when the waiter came back to inquire after our drinks and starters and one complained that the mojito was too light, he quickly offered to take it back and fix it. Which he did. Besides that and the fact that the coffee in the tiramisu was a little too strong, everything else we had was amazing and came within a reasonable timeframe. Honestly, I could go on and on about each dish we had. This is the first time I’ve taken the time to review any restaurant here so let that be testament to the impression they left on me. If you are looking for truly authentic Italian cuisine in the city, go to Tomato. And the owner is doing a great job at seeking your advice/review on your way out. I’ll give them a 5star and hope that they maintain the same standard on my subsequent visits and for everyone I...
Read moreTomato is a restaurant with a beautifully designed interior that exudes elegance and sophistication. The bright decor is complemented by an array of fascinating art and paintings that add a touch of creativity to the atmosphere. Upon walking in, I was immediately impressed by the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that went into creating such a visually stunning space.
The service at Tomato was spectacular, with staff that were incredibly kind, welcoming and attentive. They made me feel right at home and were always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that I was having a good dining experience.
As for the food, I ordered the special dish of the day, the octopus ragu with pasta. Unfortunately, the octopus was not to my liking and tasted quite sour. However, I must say that the pasta was cooked to perfection and had a wonderful texture that made it a delight to eat. Additionally, I found the dish to be incredibly oily, which detracted from the overall taste.
Despite my mixed experience with the food, I won't write off Tomato as a dining destination. Their menu is extensive, and I'm confident that there are plenty of other dishes that would suit my taste. I'm eager to return and give them a second chance.
Tomato is a restaurant that stands out for its sophisticated decor and outstanding service. While my dining experience was somewhat marred by a disappointing dish, I believe that there are many other options on the menu that would be worth trying. If you're looking for a stylish and welcoming dining experience, Tomato is definitely worth...
