Avra Restaurant — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

We have been visiting Skala for 14 years now but had not dined in Avra for a couple of years.  We came in on our last night quite early, so it was not busy.  I knew what I wanted (the chicken parmigiana) as I have had this dish before.  My husband was still deciding but felt pressured when the waiter asked for our order, so he settled on the chicken souvlaki. We had drinks, I had wine and he had a large beer. So we waited and waited.  My husband finished his beer, and no one asked if he wanted another.  And we waited. Guests from Nine Muses came in, and their meals were coming out, but not ours. We were largely ignored. I eventually asked where our food was and was told that it would be another couple of minutes as souvlaki does take a while to cook. Seriously!! When the food finally arrived, to me, it looked like it had been sitting on the counter in the kitchen for a while.  It was not very palatable at all and luke warm. We visited tonight after a recommendation from someone on the seafood risotto being one of the best they have ever had. We ordered a house rose (was fantastic), beer two seafood risottos and 2 kids fish and chips. Full of hope and anticipation only for our oldest to take poorly and be sick, everywhere. I've never experienced a warmth and kindness that followed like it. There was such compassion from them. Food was prepared to go (we still had one hungry child and ourselves to feed!) Everything was thought about, and we got it back to the hotel piping hot. Cutlery, condiments you name it in the bag. One of the owners was so kind to even drop us back to our hotel, completely offered. The food was delicious as promised, absolutely worth the visit. Even the fish fingers for the kids are the best I've ever known. Honeslty, it turned around the worst into one of the best night's as we sit here in our pjs having a take away dinner in our hotel. First place of the whole island where we could eat whitout being 'haunted' by wasps! They had wasps traps, so you can eat whitout having to worry about them.

But the food was also very delicious! You get alot for an affordable price! We had the lams shack, we both recommend it! And a dessert, delicious but alot. Worth your money and a nice place...
