We were literally the last covers of the season. We were greeted by the excellent proprietor Marios(?).
He spoke good English and was most helpful. Both the table and restaurant were clean and neat.
We started out with a carafe of house white which was really good - light, crisp yet semi sweet. We ordered five mains and four desserts.
Service was quick and friendly. We explained that one of our party was a coeliac and Marios knew what he could or couldn't have.
The grilled (maybe baked) Sea Bass was declared phenomenal - a real winner. In fact, all the dishes where excellent and these included a chicken souvlaki, chicken Gyro (served disassembled), lamb chops and lamb kleftiko. Everything was well cooked, neatly presented and very tasty.
Marios chatted with us over the course of the evening and very benevolently sent us another carafe of the wine on the house. Lovely gentleman. My only criticism was I think the Souvlaki could have included two kebabs.
Unfortunately, he had run out of Baklava for dessert but a Greek yoghurt with fruit, Chocolate crepes, chocolate brownie and an ice cream was served. Ice cream was nothing special but the other desserts were very good.
If it hadn't closed for the season, we would certainly have returned to sample his other dishes.
We would have returned had Captain Zorbas remained open for the rest of our trip. The service was stellar, the food excellent and the prices were very good offering great value for money (although I still think a second Chicken kebab should have been included).
Thank you very much Marios. Looking forward to...
Read moreEven if the food was not good (it was delicious, by the way), the service was so great that it wouldn't have mattered. I tried few restaurant in Greece but I have never experinced with the great service! It was uncredible how the owner took care about his customores! He was very nice:) It was one girĺ´s, who sat next to my table, birthday that day and she got some cake from him. It was so sweet. My english is not so good so I had little problem with comunicating yet I had very nice conversation with him too. He was interested about my country and my injuries. I got second glass of homemade wine free and rose! I ordered fish and potato and pancakes. Everythink was great. Only one thing was confusing. Fish and potato were written in menu, but chips were brought. I have not met first time in Greece. It happend to me a lot of times. I think that they should diferentiate chips from potato:) Chips are not so healthy:D Someone could be unpleasant surprice. In any case I have to recommend this restaurant and If I come to Kefalonia again I will go to dinner definitely there. It was such a lovely...
Read moreNice food but also not nice
The prices are a bit inflated .It seems they are cheap but then when your plate comes it comes in a big plate with well decorated ( cheap) fries and salad so it makes you think the portion is big
We also wanted to hire an auto but the boss saw us that we are not family people and then avoid it us in a very creepy way ( he only cared about costumers that have money and you could see that )
After you finish the food you also get a crepe after 45min because of course they are choosing to who they gonna give crêpe.....ofc I can afford buying a crepe myself but it's bit awful splitting people
Myself comes from Greece and I can say there are other tavernas worth more than this .Just walk 50m away and go to the other tavernas, they are totally better and everyone is equal
