La Mer — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

Came for a meal for my birthday and the food was lovely. Decided to return on our last evening to have the same main course a fish platter for 2 it was awful 😣 the calamari was cold the sardines were cold the chips were lukewarm and limp and the swordfish was lukewarm in the middle , very disappointed. Called someone over to tell them politely what was wrong only to for him to say “ what do you want me to do” , and also another member of staff stating that the timings weren’t wright with the meal. (he did offer to to do the same main course but it takes over 30 minutes to cook and it was already 10pm as we had been waiting for a while as they kept saying they were busy. We ended up having spaghetti bolognaise which was bland and chicken Mediterranean which the chicken which was tough, how ever the sauce was nice. Honestly, ok to start, then left alone, waited a long time for the main course, tried to get another drink but all the staff seemed to have disappeared? Unusually, for Greece, the fries came with salt all over them, then found out the lady from behind the bar was from Essex, so the British habit of plastering everything in salt alive and well here. Much preferred everywhere else that served fries with oregano. Don't like salt and there's a reason why there are salt and pepper pots on the table, so customers can add if they want. My wife's main was salty too. No atmosphere at all, the waiter complained of being tired when we finally got a second drink ordered. Nobody asked if we were OK or was everything was good with the food, Nobody asked if we wanted a dessert, or coffee or brandy to finish. No thank you was offered so I paid and left. Beautiful location and views. We had a lovely mixed meze starter. House wine was good and great value. Husband had a great Moussaka and I had the baked cod. Unfortunately, my fish was very overcooked. I ate what I could, the veg were nice enough and some of the fish was ok. We discretely let the manager know of the problem when plates were collected. Then he sent a young waitress with our bill and no acknowledgement of the faulty dish. We then had to argue with her that the fish was overcooked (lots of nonsense about how the olives will dry out the fish, etc, etc). Eventually they did take the fish dish off of the bill, but a small reduction without request (& definitely without arguing) would have left us all feeling happy.
