Liza's Grill — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

It seems this place is hit or miss - for us it was a miss, with the most appalling service, and spoiled our last night in Lourdas. In short, we pre-booked for 8pm, arrived promptly and were seated, but didn't get our meal until 9:50, almost 2 hours after we arrived. I became concerned as people arriving after us were served relatively quickly, but my enquiry, at 9:30, was met with a terse "its being prepared". There were only seven tables. At 9:50 when another fairly recent arrival was served with exactly the main course I was waiting for, I spoke again to the waiter, again he gave me a terse brush-off. I was so upset we informed him we were leaving and asked for the bill for our wine (which by now was long finished). Suddenly he became apologetic and discovered the food was ready and would be free of charge due to their mistake. I could almost have forgiven them the mistake if they had explained any issues earlier and responded politely to my previous enquiries, maybe even brought us something to nibble on while we waited, but their rudeness was the last straw. This place is actually ‘Liza’s Grill’ and is further up the street, opposite Cafe Platanos.

Have to say I was very disappointed with our meal after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. The service was friendly and some dishes were good - gigantes and sea bream were both lovely, though the fish was pricey at 20 euros, which is more expensive than places in Fiskardo! But the sad part was the ‘special’ lamb kleftiko, which was not slow-cooked and not served in a clay pot - it was very tough, made with frozen peas and carrots, and weirdly had some cheese on top. Barely recognisable as kleftiko, it was the only disappointing dish we had during a whole week in Kefalonia.

I was gearing up to complain, but sadly Liza didn’t ask whether we enjoyed our food, nor did she notice we had barely touched the lamb. In fairness she was very busy, which I guess means she had taken her eye off what was coming out of the kitchen.

Maybe we got unlucky here given other reviews, but I think if you offer something as the ‘special’ then it should at least be fresh and recognisable as...

This is honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! The service is incredible, and the food is outstanding. The pork & honey dish is one of my favourite ever meals, and the creamy chicken is also delicious. We went to Liza’s with our 11 month old baby and they were so accommodating and friendly - can highly recommend this place, so authentic, warm, friendly and so so delicious. I only have a pic of our starters! But honestly you have to try the pork if you go - it’s a show stopper. The orange cake is also incredible. We will be back...
