I eat here every 2 days when in Athens. The prices undercut all competition at 10 Euros for a chicken curry (korma, tikka masala, butter chicken, etc.) with a rather large, fresh side salad and a heaping portion of rice. That being said, the dishes are all expertly prepared and the presentation/plating is Instagram-worthy (if you are into that). My favorite chicken dishes are the chicken tikka masala and the chicken biriyani, as they both use chicken that has been marinated and cooked in the tandoor oven. In contrast, if you get the korma with chicken, it has only been marinated in yogurt and is less flavorful, although the sweet, creamy korma sauce is really addictive for dipping the naan into... The biriyani comes with a generous side of raita, the yogurt, that complements it perfectly as one is salty and spicy (if you get 'medium' spicy), and the other is cooling. I also love their fresh chickpea salad for 5 Euros that is a huge portion and very tasty (enough to feed 2 adults). My least favorite dish is probably the butter chicken, as its red sauce was just too sweet (more than even the korma). The butter paneer dish with a similar red curry sauce is a bit less sweet and highly recommended, especially for dipping the naan. The least sweet of the 3 'red' curry dishes would be the tikka masala, which also has nice chucks of tomato vs. being pureed.
As for the naan, it's addictive and fresh. It comes out glistening from the ghee/butter rubbed on it before it reaches your table. 1 naan is enough for 2 adults to share, or is 2 meals for 1 adult who wants to take home leftovers.
Lastly, the modern bathrooms in the basement are far nicer than most restaurants. The waitresses, who are probably all tri-lingual in English, Greek, and an Asian language, can answer all questions in fluent English and are very nice, as are the chefs you can see cooking in the kitchen. Keep in mind that if you enter on a night when you see at least 5 tables taken, the wait for food will likely be 30+ minutes, as they have 2 chefs and cook everything fresh, on-demand. They do give you free crispy snacks and dipping sauce while you wait for the entrees. Really, there is nothing not to like about this place. If you have leftovers, just ask them to pack it for 'take away.' I will keep going at least once a week so long as I am in Athens!
Payment: They accept international credit cards with a mobile payment processor. at your table. If you are American, ask them to select 'no' when processing the payment when it asks them if they want an automatic conversion from Euros to USD. You will pay an extra 1-2 Euros for that conversion when all no-international-transaction-fee credit cards do that automatically...By selecting 'no,' the payment still processes in Euros and your American card then converts it at no extra cost (assuming you have a no-international-transaction fee card like me). My card emails me the converted rate seconds after payment, since I have it set up like that. But make sure to take some Euro coins to tip the waitress before you leave.
Location: They are 1 long 'avenue' block (as we say in NYC) from the Ambelokipi metro stop. There is also a bus stop in front and on many...
Read moreFood: Tikka masala curry was excellent, Rogan Josh was mediocre with the chicken being a little undercooked. Mixed grill was underwhelming, Garlic naan was not bad and the Samosas were fantastic. Same goes for the mango drink, great stuff.
Service: Service was polite and fast.
Atmosphere: Few tables, comfortable space. The only minus is that it is semi-open so it can get pretty cold at Wintertime. Could use some heaters!
Prices: This was my main complaint here, prices could be lower, for example concerning the curries and specially for the mixed grill. Not too expensive but overpriced in my opinion, for the portions offered.
To sum up, food can be hit or miss so pick wisely (I recommend going for the curries instead of the grills). Offers interesting and authentic indian options. Prices could be lower for the portions they offer and the eating space is pretty standard but comfortable and would be great with some extra...
Read moreI had such an incredible experience at the Indian restaurant. Let me tell you, it's like a paradise for anyone who loves Indian cuisine. The prices were just right, and honestly, the taste was so amazing that the prices felt totally worth it. And the portion sizes? Huge! I mean, you won't leave the place feeling hungry, that's for sure.
What really stood out, though, was the hospitality and the staff. They were so friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance was really nice too, adding to the whole vibe of the place.
And get this – they even do home deliveries within a 4-kilometer radius. How convenient is that? It's like having those delicious dishes right at your doorstep.
All in all, I can easily say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had. If you're ever craving Indian food and a great time, this place is definitely worth checking out. Trust me, you won't be...
