This was an absolutely remarkable culinary experience! The menu was excellent and well rounded, true to Greek roots with fresh local catches, lamb, chicken, and beef options. Appetizers were lovely. Even the bread and butter/virgin olive oil starter was presented with exceptional class, description, and a smile. Waitstaff were attentive without being nosey, ready to assist immediately without our party feeling as though we were being watched, and prompt in both food knowledge and delivery. They did a phenomenal job "waiting" on us with precision and warmth, and the actual serving and dishing of our courses was well above expectations. The maitre d' even self delivered our dessert course to our room in the resident hotel as we quickly had to make our escape with a very distraught jetlagged toddler, to the knowing understanding smiles of all staff present. It was a relief, and a joy to dine here. When I spooned into my delivered dessert, the strawberry and basil whip with Gelato and crumb, I very nearly cried. It was just that elegant and deliciously perfect. The mediterranean salad appetizer was also delightful, a favorite of our server, and I nearly ate all of it myself. The way the ripe cherry tomatoes mingled with a sweet onion, caper, cucumber, and a slivered lemon crisp throughout a perfectly seasoned feta whip was such a gastronomical treasure hunt and a new flavor in each bite. It teased and intrigued the palate all the way through the plate. The intermingling of flavors is absolute balanced perfection for everything on my and my husband's menu this evening. At first glance as each portion was served, I thought, "oh this is nice, similar to other nice dishes I've had", yet each offering seemed to just be a delight and a surprise as the meal progressed. While simple yet elegantly plated on the surface, the textures and flavors and the way they worked together was wholly outstanding. Ambiance was fresh and warm and lovely, classy. This is exactly what fine dining should be, well done! We did not visit while the summer roof top dining was open, but our window view was spectacular. The server even opened the rooftop patio for my spouse to return later and take pictures, those extra touches of inclusive service seemed to be all encompassing, and we will definitely return when we come back...
Read moreWords cannot describe the wonderful dining experience we had here. I will start with the excellent service. We were early for our reservation but we were mmediately seated at a table for two outdoors (roof top) with the most amazing view of the Acropolis. Our server Orestis was so amazing in describing the wines we inquired about. He was also very patient. Greek wines are not like American wines. We usually gravitate to Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir but they did not meet our expectations. So he recommended the Syrah and we finally settled on that and we were not disappointed.
The food here was beyond delectable. We started with the Octopus appetizer. This was the first time I had Octopus that was prepared perfectly, soft but not rubbery. It was served in two light sauces and other items that Orestis explained quite well. It was truly the best Octopus I have ever had.
We both ordered the Sea Bass. It was also cooked perfectly and cut up slightly and spread atop a dish of mouthwatering flavors that included an orzo type rice in a green sauce with a slight lemon flavor and dollops of a soft cheese and small cherry tomatoes. This was also the best Sea Bass we have had. Midway through our main dish we decided to order one basket of bread. Even the bread was noteworthy. It came with a slice of homemade sourdough (soft and warm), a potato roll, and a warm bread with olive oil. They brought soft cream butter and olive oil.
I highly recommend this restaurant. We would return for a meal here even if we did not stay at the hotel. We noticed when we entered the restaurant that they had certificates that showed they were Michelin recommended. I...
Read morePremière Is French-inspired fine dining on the 10th floor of the Athenaeum InterContinental. During the summer, Première’s terrace opens, providing a whole vibe and beautiful rooftop views of the Parthenon and other landmarks.
I really wanted to catch an Athenian sunset on my one night there, so cocktails at Première was a must for me. Many of the terrace tables have unobstructed views of the Acropolis and of city life. The terrace is sweeping and beautiful, but the décor is modern yet minimalist & focused on natural materials, keeping the focus on the views. The inside of the restaurant is a consistent theme, with floor to ceiling windows showing off the panoramic view of Athens.
Service was as outstanding as the views. The views were so captivating that I brought my husband w/ me around closing time and the staff welcomed me back by name.
I ordered the Athens Sunrise & the Seabass Ceviche.
Athens Sunrise features Tsipouro, Grecian un-aged brandy, limoncello, orange juice, and grenadine. AS has nice citrus notes & is the type of drink that slowly catches up to you.
Orders come with bread service with butter made from beet root and olive oil from Calamata. While the bread was not memorable, the butter was nicely salted and there was a welcome hint of beet root.
The Seabass Ceviche was memorable. The fish was buttery, the sauce of coconut milk, lime, and coriander was delicious, and the onion added a flavor pop.
We had dinner reservations, so I had to stop myself from ordering more. But I would be happy to go back for the food &...
