Upon check-in at the Athenaeum InterContinental, we asked the Concierge for a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel for lunch. He recommended Grill House Vassilis, a neighborhood eatery. It is a quaint restaurant with an open kitchen and outdoor seating. Our waitress was very helpful in providing recommendations and the food came out within a reasonable time frame.

We ordered: Chicken Gyro, Sis Kebab, Moussaka, Omelet, Bread service.

Whether in America or Greece, I have learned that you should order the lamb if you see it on the spit. Fortunately, my friend ordered the Sis Kebab. It was definitely the highlight of our meal, as the lamb was so tender and flavorful. It came with French Fries which needed salt but were crispy.

The highlight of the chicken gyro was its flavorful, crispy chicken skin. The chicken needed a little more salt and was a bit on the dry side.

The omlet and bread (served with honey) were good but not memorable.

The moussaka is a classic Greek casserole that resembles lasagna. It was potato-based (instead of eggplant). The meat and creamy béchamel sauce came to life I added salt to the dish.

We noticed the souvlaki walk past and vowed to come back and order it.

If you are looking for a fancy Greek restaurant, this is not the one. But if you are looking for a no-frills, home comfort food for a good price,...

If you’re looking for a true taste of Greek hospitality paired with outstanding grilled food, Grill House Vassilis is an absolute must. Nestled in Neos Kosmos, this family-run gem delivers generous portions, authentic flavours, and service that goes above and beyond.

From the moment you step in, there’s a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. The staff are attentive, friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do. The grilled meats are a highlight — perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavour. Every dish feels homemade: the Greek salad is fresh and crisp, the classic moussaka is rich and comforting, and the gyros wraps are deliciously satisfying.

What really stands out is the balance between quality and value. You get large portions and excellent taste without feeling that you’re overpaying. On top of that, the setting is charming — relaxed, clean, and ideal for enjoying a relaxed lunch or dinner.

All in all, Grill House Vassilis offers an authentic culinary experience in Athens: heartwarming food, generous servings, warm service, and excellent value. Highly recommended — you’ll leave happy, full, and planning...

An Unforgettable Experience at Vasilis Grillhouse!

If you’re looking for a warm, family-friendly atmosphere with amazing food and genuinely welcoming people, then Vasilis Grillhouse is the perfect destination! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and a sense of authentic Greek hospitality that’s truly rare to find.

And the food? Simply incredible! Beautifully prepared traditional dishes made with top-quality ingredients and rich, authentic flavors that bring to mind the comfort of home-cooked meals. Every bite was a celebration of Greek culinary tradition.

But what truly sets Vasilis Grillhouse apart is the people. A family with a real passion for what they do and a heartfelt love for their guests. Every detail – from the attentive service to the warm atmosphere – reflects their genuine care.

All in all, Vasilis Grillhouse isn’t just a restaurant – it’s an experience that makes you feel right at home. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine and true hospitality.

Huge congratulations to the entire team – we’ll...

We were told about the restaurant by our guide so we went for lunch and over all the experience was pleasant. We got olive and zucchini croquettes for appetizers which were both delicious. The pork souvlaki platter was delicious, the spices were perfect and the pork was cooked amazing and was so juicy. The chicken souvlaki was not as good, there was not enough spices and part of the chicken was not cooked all the way. The pork gyro was very good, the pita was soft but there were an over powering amount of onions. The chicken gyro platter was very good with lots of spices and the chicken was just slightly chewy but in a good way. Over I would recommend the restaurant but would say go with the pork over the chicken.

We chose this restaurant because we had been in the neighborhood and were really hoping to find a traditional Greek restaurant. We were seated right away. The atmosphere was lovely, like a cozy garden. We placed our order without any hassle, and the service was very friendly. The pita bread was wonderfully seasoned and the taramasalata was really delicious. It's just a shame that the portions for the taramasalata and mixed salad were a bit on the small side. We decided to go for the platter for two, and it was incredibly tasty and cooked to perfection. All things considered, I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking to experience authentic Greek cuisine.
