Trattoria Capanna — Restaurant in Athens

Trattoria Capanna is an intimate, family run restaurant with very good food. We are a couple who were visiting Athens and found this restaurant by searching on Google maps. Wish we had found it sooner!

We shared the Vitello Tonnato. It was a very generous serving of veal with a flavorful, light Tonnato sauce. For our main course we each had a the gnocchichetti with shrimp. I spoke with the server about the gnocchichetti which had a slight taste of semolina, was light and perfectly cooked. He said that it was made on the premises. The dish was served with 6 large and succulent shrimp.

We were charged for the grilled bread that was served with the meal but charging for bread is typical in many European countries. We also shared a lovely bottle of a blended Sauvignon Blanc and a bottle of sparkling water which increased the cost of the meal. I only mention this information because many of the negative reviews complain about the cost. There is certainly an affordable meal here for all budgets.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A weekly ritual whenever I’m in Athens

I live between the U.S. and Athens, and Capanna is one of those places I can’t stay away from when I’m here. It’s a steady part of my week. I come at least once, sometimes more.

The menu is exactly how it should be: easy to navigate, with all the key Italian dishes you’d want. Not overwhelming, not limited; just the right amount of options, and everything is consistently excellent. The carpaccio is absolutely mind-blowing. The truffle ravioli is rich, aromatic, and memorable. The vitello tonnato? Truly sensational. And their desserts always land on a high note.

Service is another big reason I keep coming back. The team is consistently kind, polite, and genuinely warm. I always feel welcomed, and I notice the same vibe at every table. People are comfortable, happy, and clearly enjoying themselves.

Five stars for the most incredible Italian restaurant in athens and a galaxy of stars for Yannis who is the personification of impeccable service and hospitality This is a restaurant for the discerning Athenians and the tourists that seek out a high end experience The food is consistently excellent, the service is outstanding and the location adds to the ambiance I wouldn’t know where to start to describe the phenomenonal quality of the food and delicious menu We wish we had a couple of spare stomachs to eat everything and as if the food was not enough, our divine meal was finished off with magnificent espresso and a tower of freshly prepared choux with vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate Chilled Complimentary grappa and “masticha” (this is a Greek alcoholic liquor) was served to round up our meal
