Great exhibits, such as automated systems, alarm systems, encrypted communication, lifting machines, calendars, medical devices, musical instruments, and - yes indeed - the world's first robot. Succinct and clear explanatory texts or videos to accompany each exhibit. Also, there are guides who also explain the mechanism behind each exhibit, although this part could improve by making the explanations more lively. More importantly, this museum gave me a feeling of being welcome, both because of its coziness, and because the guides were next to us most of the time. This was enhanced by the fact that, on the first day that I visited, I didn't have enough time to see all the exhibits, and the guides let me visit again using the same ticket. This really made me feel like a valued visitor and not like a faceless customer. The highlight of the museum is the interactive exhibits. Also, we got a present at the end, a board game called 'trias' (τριάς), which is also exhibited at the museum. This again shows the museum's dedication to visitors feeling welcome and special. All in all, a a great experience which will make you marvel at the ingenuity and imagination of Ancient Greeks when it comes to engineering, and the application of science in general. If you visit Athens and want to learn a bit more about the people who made this city and country great, this museum is a must-see. 5 stars are for Spock (aka God for us atheists), so 4 stars is still excellent, as...

The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology Kotsanas is a worth-visit destination for anyone interested in the impressive technological achievements of ancient Greece. This award-winning museum offers a fantastic educational experience, made even better by the availability of free guided tours led by knowledgeable and helpful professionals.

The museum displays a wide range of ancient Greek inventions and technological marvels, brought to life through impressive working models and interactive exhibits. Visitors can see and learn about ancient machines and technologies. The guides do an excellent job of explaining the history and significance of these groundbreaking innovations.

One of the best aspects of this museum is the opportunity to take advantage of the free guided tours. The guides are clearly passionate about the subject matter and provide valuable context and insights that greatly enhance the visitor's understanding and appreciation. They are happy to answer questions and ensure everyone leaves with a deeper knowledge of ancient Greek technology.

There is also souvenir for the visitors at the end of the tour.

The only downside is that the museum itself is quite small, which means the exhibition space is limited compared to larger museums. However, this intimate setting allows for a more focused and...

Amazing little museum which really puts the technology of ancient Greece in perspective.

They have many interactive exhibits from primitive robots that poured drinks by hydraulics, to early automatic doors to calendars that could mechanically predict eclipses to water powered alarm clocks. The exhibits are brilliant for both adults and kids and the staff are friendly and more than happy to explain and inform and are full of interesting information (they also spoke very good Greek, English and French while I was there and I suspect other languages too)

For a small extra fee we could also see two other exhibits. One is on ancient Greek instruments which is interesting, but aimed at a more intellectual crowd (not quite as much to keep the kids entertained) which I would suggest visiting first if you can.

The other small exhibit was on ancient Greek armour with gorgeous hand made replicas of various ancient armours from many famous combatants and warriors and a massive range, some of which I had never even thought existed. The detail and craftsmanship is second to none and this small exhibit is easily worth the full entry price of the museum alone.

All in all this museum was the highlight of our day in Athens and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone of any age. Cheap tickets (10€ each), amazing staff and incredible exhibits. Will come here again when we come...

The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology was really an eye-opener to me. When I was young, I learnt a lot about the great Greek scientists, engineers and mathematicians such as Archimedes and Pythagoras. I really admire their ingenuity and what they achieved more than 2000 years ago. But this museum told me what I knew before is just the tip of an iceberg. You can easily spend a whole day here because they built a lot of workable models, illustrative videos, comprehensive diagrams and interesting games that you can hardly find in other prestigious museums such as the Archaeological Museum and Acropolis Museum. You can also try and touch most of the exhibits there but you cannot do this in those big museums. The staff there are very friendly and helpful, especially Dimitris. He is very knowledgeable and is always ready to explain the technology in detail. He let me understand much more about various ancient Greek technology. When compared to the famous museums, the staff there just watch you for disallowed behaviour but not be there to help you understand the displays. If you are in Athens, especially when you are near Lycabettus Hill, don't miss this wonderful museum!!

There are must-see museums and monuments in Athens -- the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, the Ancient Agora, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Hephaesteion. This museum, the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, does not have a flashy space, it's not so well known, and it isn't so glamorous as these other places. However, it seems difficult to really understand just how innovative the ancient Greeks were without going here. By seeing all the things the Greeks had to invent -- everything from pulley systems to trick wine cups to fire extinguishers, repeating crossbows and door alarms -- you get a better sense of how these people lived, who they were, and what their culture was like. I don't know if it's "essential" to come here, just because you really, really need to see sites like the Acropolis and the Hephaestion before you come here. But this place is, in my opinion, very, very worth it. Especially if you're fortunate enough to have some of these technologies demonstrated by some of the museum's staff. Absolutely recommended.
