Yeah, it’s all a matter of perspective, isn’t it? I’ve always wanted to eat somewhere like this—barely a meter from the sea, and honestly, that part was beautiful. But what really disgusts me is the smoking! For the love of god, who in their right mind smokes while other people are eating? Disgusting !I’m lucky—no one lit up while we were there. Was it allowed? No clue, there’s not even a sign. But if someone had started smoking, it would have ruined everything instantly! Now the food: forget about getting the size of a portion you’d get in Athens. Everything’s smaller, especially the meat. I like sauce and guess what—they give you just a taste. One bite! The cheapest part of the dish, and they basically ration it out. The sauce should be at least triple, easily! Staff are nice, but you have to ask twice to get things done. And a single beer—4.5 euros... you decide: too much or not? Do I recommend it? Against my better judgment, yes—you should probably try it if you’re in the area. But be prepared to beg for sauce and pray no one starts smoking next to you...
Read moreNice location, but food wasn’t the greatest. I ordered the seafood pasta. Big mistake. Should have known the whole thing would have been with frozen seafood. I specifically told the waiter not to add the muscles, as this was the only seafood in the pasta that was frozen. The other ingredients consisted of shrimp and octopus, so I thought. He insisted no, keep the muscles; it’s very good, trust me, so I did. Big mistake! The WHOLE pasta was frozen muscles and some TINY pieces of shrimp, maybe 5 pieces, and a SPECKLE of octopus, literally 1 piece of shredded octopus. I only got the pasta because I was craving octopus; I should have known this would happen. It literally was 1 tiny shred of octopus. What a rip-off. The waiter only told me to keep the frozen seafood in as this was THE ONLY seafood in the pasta. He could have suggested another dish. There is a lack of good customer service in Greece. What a shame. I would expect the seafood to be not...
Read moreAegina, one of Greece’s Saronic Islands, is steeped in history and charm. The island is home to the Temple of Aphaia, and it played a key role in the Greek War of Independence, even serving as the temporary capital of Greece in the 1820s.
But, in my opinion, the true highlight of the island was the incredible meal I had at Maistrali. This restaurant served some of the best dishes I’ve had since arriving in Greece. My absolute favorites were the beef stew with onions and plums and the beef stew in tomato sauce with penne pasta. Both dishes were superb, but the beef stew really stole the show — the meat was buttery soft and melted in your mouth with every bite.
To top it off, the view from the restaurant was breathtaking. Dining at Maistrali was an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Aegina.
