I am writing this in English cause I want as many people as possible to read this. Nestled betwixt the streets of Aegina, next to cine Anesis lays an unassuming small canteen. When me and a good friend came to celebrate a fruitful semester, we learned of this store from a brochure. The prices were so good one may suspect the quality to be subpar, yet when we first ate there we were enamored. Pitsis exists in defiance to an unfortunate shift in the greek standard of living, a small store with passionate cooks in a sea of stores trying to pander to the tourist's gaze. The food is extremely cheap and made in a style that feels homemade, the staff is sociable and while the space as I alluded to isn't something crazy but that's the point. Pitsis nourishes not only locals but also tourists, it is a community gem and a symbol of endurance in an increasingly hostile greek economy.
