Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Plakias, if not the best, this dining experience was a delightful departure from the typical Greek tavern fare we had enjoyed for the past three days. We booked a table with the hope of finding something more refined and unique, and we were not disappointed.
The starters were exceptional. We sampled a variety of options, each one better than the last. From the fresh and vibrant salads to the rich and flavorful dips, every dish was meticulously prepared and presented. The ingredients were clearly fresh and of high quality, and the flavors were well-balanced and intriguing.
For our main courses, we opted for the steak and the spaghetti with shrimps. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with a deliciously charred exterior that hinted at expert grilling techniques. It was served with a selection of sides that complemented the meat beautifully, adding both texture and flavor to the dish. The spaghetti with shrimps was equally impressive. The pasta was cooked al dente, and the shrimp were succulent and plentiful. The sauce, a delicate blend of tomatoes, garlic, and herbs, was both light and flavorful, allowing the natural sweetness of the shrimp to shine through.
To accompany our meal, we chose a local Greek white wine. It was a pleasant surprise, with a crisp and refreshing taste that paired wonderfully with both the starters and the main courses. It was certainly above average and added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience.
In conclusion, this restaurant in Plakias stands out as one of the best, if not the best, dining experiences we had on our trip. The food was excellent, the wine was delightful, and the overall atmosphere made for a memorable evening. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for something more than the typical Greek...
Read moreProbably the best place we have eaten so far on Crete. Greek food with a gastronomical twist. Definitely worth a try. We shared the sheep carpaccio, tyrokafterh, cod fish tartar and grilled sea bas (they didn't have more mackerel). The starters where delicious. Tyrokafterh and cod fish tartar were top. The taste combination of the local mustard and black garlic mayo on the carpaccio was excellent, however, I personally would have preferred a bit more sea salt. But I am Danish and we tend to like our food a bit more salty.
The grilled sea bas was interesting. The sauce somehow had a taste of (Danish) Christmas sauce, which I of course liked. It went well with the cabbage. Interesting how they reached a similar taste with different ingredients. The fish was fine. But to make this dish even better they should have made the skin crispy since they chose to leave it on. Perhaps add a bit more cabbage to balance things and make the serving a bit bigger. And we found a small fish bone in the fish. That sucks, it can happen but it doesn't change the overall top rating.
Their wine card is also good to a fair price. They also know how to make sour dough bread which is very much appreciated by a Dane.
We also enjoyed their ice cream dessert with "angel hair". It is in the heavy end of the dessert scale but I liked it the combination of the sweetness if the ice cream and angel hair and the fatty/salty cheese.
Waiters were very friendly, helpful and patient. They enjoyed our kids and let us place our 10 months son in our stroller inside since they didn't have a baby chair.
Many good restaurants on Crete don't have nice toilets. But their's are awesome!
So if you are in Plakias, go to Medousa Restaurant....

positive * Lamb carpaccio : my friend loved it and said it was the best dish of the place. 10/10 ! Fava peas was filling, nothing special about it Sea bass was absolutely delicious, tasty, simple and the sauce… wow ! Chocolate tart was one of the best I’ve had in a while
negative * Charged for 2 home made sourdough bread that was rock hard and for which we didn’t asked for. Tuna tartare was very nice however it was such a small portion for 14€… not a great value for the price. The tarama was not what I expected. Of course not the one from the supermarket yet it had no similarities whatsoever. I returned it because it had small dices of meat on top (that I cannot eat). We still were charged for a dish we didn’t eat because it’s revisited and didn’t match dietary restriction. A gesture of goodwill here would have been appreciated.
Thank you Nikos to take the time to explain to us that it exists 3 different types of Tarama after I sent it back for me to understand the why it was so far of what I had in mind. It was very professional and...
