Tavern Kipos — Restaurant in Municipality of Agios Vasileios

Excellent food as always, even a few decades ago was great “Mamas cooking” of Greek and Cretan aromatic specialities. The staff is vey nice. Lovely family run restaurant with daily local specials (ask the waiter or owner for those as they might not appear on the menu). Restaurant closes at 19:00, so have had mainly late lunch there on multiple occasions and Frappe and fresh juices. From the daily specials you can ask for a meze mix of various Greek Appetizers (tzatziki, salad, filled zucchini flowers with rice, wine leaves, filled peppers or tomatoes with rice etc.). The stifados are amazing too. Pastitsio, Musaka and the Greek/Cretan specials are full of Greek flavours of herbs, spices etc. which makes them amazing and local. I have had mainly food from the daily specials, but the a la carte has a variety of food too (breakfast, pasta, pizza, salads, sandwiches, nuggets, spring rolls etc). I have been recommended the Caesar salad, which was good. Be aware the portions are massive (my pictures are half of small sizes). Home made desert and raki is served by the house. You can use the sun loungers and pool while you are there enjoying your day and food. Attached to a well run campsite. Definitely worth a visit...

We had very mixed feelings about this place. The food is absolutely delicious, you won’t find anything better in Agia Galini. And the prices for this quality and these portions are unbeatable. However, sine the place is on the camping, the atmosphere there is very specific. Everything feels a bit “unwashed”, the glasses, the cutlery, the plates. The service is ok, not perfect, but ok. A big problem for us were the cats. We got used to the cats in Agia Galini which walk to your table as soon as you receive your meal. But over half of the cats that walk between the tables in Kipos are very dirty and one of them which sat in front of us during our dinner was sick. He sat with a saliva pouring out of his mouth for an hour. It was quite disgusting and made us not come back to this place again which is a real shame, as the food was absolutely amazing. If you are looking for another check mark on your bucket list, visit this place. The food was more than excellent, the service great. Simple people with lots of passion for their work. I really felt home just like my grandmother cooked for me years ago with plenty of love and care. Let Babis the chef, take you to a culinaire trip that you will never forget. Tasty, traditional, with a light modern touch. The prices are really really cheap. We were a Dutch group of 12 persons and everyone left with a huge smile in their face.
