First night in Crete, hungry and with zero expectations… and then – magic happened!
My wife and I landed in Chania around 9:00 PM. By the time we got to our apartment in Nea Chora, it was 10:30 PM and we were starving. Honestly, we didn’t believe we’d find anything good to eat at that hour in a new city. Most restaurants on the promenade were already closed…
But then, we spotted Mikrolimano – and that was a total game changer!
The friendliest waiter (with perfect English, who later told us he had even visited Wyspa Słodowa in Wrocław, Poland – literally 1 km from my wife’s office! What are the odds?! 😅) welcomed us to the last, most romantic table at the end of the pier – right above the water, with a dreamy view of the fishing boats.
We opened the menu and couldn’t believe it – exactly the fresh seafood and grilled veggies we had been dreaming of for two years! Grilled calamari, homemade fries, local white wine… all at very reasonable prices.
When the food arrived, we realized we’d just landed in culinary heaven: delicious wine, perfect seafood, beautiful view, and the kind of hospitality that instantly makes you feel at home. Within the first hour of our holiday, our long-time dream finally came true – and in a way that felt almost unreal, especially after our last trip to Dubrovnik, where we hunted for local seafood all week and only found an overpriced, average place on our last night.
We kept coming back to Mikrolimano throughout our stay, and every time was just as magical and delicious. One night, we even ended up having a spontaneous “Polish night” with two other couples – three tables, one big celebration! 🇵🇱
If you’re looking for the best seafood in Chania and a real taste of Greek soul – this is THE place. For us, Mikrolimano is not just a restaurant, it’s a memory for life.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Huge thanks to the entire Mikrolimano team for the amazing moments, flavors, vibe, and hospitality!

Read moreIt's quite a walk from the city center and not worth it. We (my daughter, my wife and me) went there because of the good recommendations here and at tripadvisor and we're really disappointed.
The salmon filet of my daughter was a salmon steak. The mushrooms I had as a starter, were grilled ok, but no salt, pepper or even some herbs ... just grilled that's it :(.
I have to acknowledge that my calamari was quite fine. But it was just the calamari nothing else @ 13 EUR it's some money for local level.
We had 3 fish meals (salmon, calamari & shrimps), but not a single lemon aside. I don't know if a lemon is unusual here in Crete, however, all other restaurants around the corner offer you some lemon with fish.
Finally, the major problem was the time everything took. We reached the restaurant at 13:40. We had 2 starters and 3 main course, some wine & water, nothing fancy and left 2 hours later. Even worse are the comments "you will have your plates within a minute", when it will take another 15. I would have preferred the other way round of course.
Last not least, if I wouldn't have walked to the cash at the inside I am afraid we would never had left ;).
I have to admit that I the whole meal @56 EUR was discounted for 2 EUR as they thought the salmon steak was a little small. Frankly speaking I would have prefered to find a reason...
Read moreWe came to have supper because of the good reviews but was disappointed, mostly from the service. Since we don’t speak Greek, only one waiter was serving us.
The entrees were good portioned but when we were served the main course, nobody came to see us for a full 60 minutes afterwards. Not a single “is everything okay?” or “can we get you anything else?” We were done eating, the table full of dirty and empty plates and waiters and the owners or managers were literally just walking past our table.
I had to get up myself and go to the front to ask for the bill and when I calmly complained of the situation, the non English speaking boss starting screaming, like he literally got mad, and the employee translated that in Greek tradition, you have to call the waiter yourself if you need anything (first time hearing that after a few weeks in Greece).
After reading more reviews, I saw that other people had the same experience. All in all, i wouldn’t recommend this to my friends if they don’t...
