Smart looking restaurant on a busy road directly opposite the sea but I experienced more style than substance. On the plus side service was friendly (were only 6 customers to be fair) and water was free and a highlight was the free mini carafe of raki/juice/grenadine at the end. Had the 'Salmon in the Oven' which didn't live up to the description. Was a small tail end piece (frozen I would guess), came with unadvertised undercooked chips, spring onion instead of capers, bland tartare sauce and the steamed vegetables (carrot, courgette and brocolli) were raw. I don't mind crudités but not as a side. Mentioned this and she checked and was told 'the machine' was not working so how they did not notice! They rustled up a nice plate of grilled mediterranean veggies as a substitute. Biggest bugbear was the overpriced house wine which was the most expensive in the resort. It was nice but 8€ for a half bottle (375ml) of unlabelled white is too high. Had a full 750ml bottle of silver medal winning white in a lovely top rated restaurant in Chania the following night for 8,50€. Probably pays for the decor and the miraculous collection of stylish chairs - no two of which...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with a warm and friendly owner and an impressive wine selection that initially raised our hopes. Unfortunately, the food quickly brought them down. I should’ve been concerned when asked whether I wanted my risotto made with cream, butter, or olive oil—a strange question for a dish that should speak for itself. The mushroom risotto listed black truffle as its first ingredient, but there was no sign of it, not even a hint of what might have been truffle oil. What arrived was a large, dry bowl of oddly textured rice and standard mushrooms. It also advertised portobello mushrooms, which were nowhere to be found. The Caprese salad was decent, though it lacked enough pesto, which was the sole dressing. The seafood linguini was just okay but light on seafood. When we politely shared our disappointment with the staff, it was met with indifference. After recently dining in Rome and working alongside top Italian chefs, I should have trusted my instincts. With far better options nearby, I wouldn’t recommend wasting...
Read moreThere is a woman who has given a review of this place that says although their pasta is great the pizza is so - so. That woman is deluded!!! If I had the time, the inclination or the vindictiveness I would seek her out and have her cancelled. To put my rather strong views in perspective I was born in Napoli, without doubt the birthplace of amazing pizza and to put it bluntly she has absolutely no idea of what she's talking about. Some pizzerias get the base right but not the toppings, or vice versa. Here they get it completely perfect. Not even that, occasionally pizzerias get both of those right but they have a big, dry bit of pizza crust hanging out of the edge. Not these guys!
And then, thinking it was too good to be true, I bought the very reasonably priced local Cretan red wine, rl expecting it to be acidic like a typical Sicilian. Totally wrong, it was absolutely gorgeous !! And a beautiful restaurant in terms of decor as well! Whats...
