Papanikolakis in Chania is a confectionery dream come true! I had the pleasure of trying their blueberry, cherry, almond, and chocolate cakes, and each one was a delight in its own way. The blueberry and cherry cakes were bursting with fresh, fruity flavors, perfectly balanced between sweet and tangy. The almond cake was a standout, with a rich, nutty flavor and soft texture that was absolutely divine. And the chocolate cake—wow! It was decadent, moist, and packed with deep, rich chocolate goodness.

This bakery and cafe is maybe a ten minute walk from our AirBnB. Along the way we pass three or four other bakeries just to get to this one. The selection is good, the food is delicious, most of the offerings are marked in Greek and English and the staff is more than happy to explain the ones that aren’t. They are patient with me as I butcher the Greek language in my effort to learn some. The owner and his mother(?) are super friendly as well as the employees. If you’re in the area you should certainly stop here for something to eat. I will admit I don’t think there’s been a morning yet that I didn’t go back in for a second time to try...
