We came here twice on our Crete vacation , and still looking for an excuse to visit the neighborhood again, and leverage it for a third go-around. Frankly, I’m only qualified to speak about the sandwiches and the coffee, because I’m not really into sweet pastries. I had both of the “vegetarian” sandwiches (i.e the ones without ham) and both were exceptionally delicious. One was avocado based and the other was anchored by some kind of delicious soft cheese. Both were very creative and perfectly balanced. I’m sure the bread (i think some kind of sourdough with lots of grains and a flat focaccia-type bread) is a central part of the story, so that’s also an indirect review of the bread. I think bread is at least 50% of what makes a sandwich stand out. The coffee is at a high level, neck-and-neck with Kross Coffee Roasters which we also had on several occasions this holiday in Chania, and on past visits. Regarding the vibe, the place is a kind of understated elegance, very simple, very clean and airy. You can tell they put a lot of thought into designing the space, which includes huge look-through windows that allow you to see the entire baking operation behind the scenes. It makes for very cool picture taking. As for prices, I’m on vacation in Crete so I could not care less about the prices and I don’t even bother to check, especially for simple food items, but I don’t remember seeing or hearing anything out of the ordinary at the checkout, so I have no ideas why some of the other reviewers are outraged about the price. This seems quite petty and inaccurate to me. I’m sure it costs more than a standard cafe on the street, but it is not in the same league, so a comparison seems foolish to me. Finally, the staff was very friendly and efficient (and clean, which is important to me) and you can tell they are happy...
Read moreI recently had the of pleasure visiting Red Jane Bakery, it was a great experience. From the moment I saw the building, I was captivated by the great atmosphere in their cool industrial interior. The place oozed charm and sophistication.
Now, let's talk about the food. At Red Jane Bakery, they absolutely nailed it. Their pastries were a work of art, with each bite bursting with flavor and freshness. From buttery croissants to delectable cookies every item on their menu, was a treat for my taste buds. And don't even get me started on their bread. I bought a couple and they were like a little slice of heaven, perfectly crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
The staff at Red Jane Bakery deserves a special mention as well. They were friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about their craft.
Overall, my experience at Red Jane Bakery was absolutely delightful. With its charming atmosphere in a cool industrial interior and mouthwatering treats, it's no wonder this place is such a gem. Whether you're a pastry enthusiast or simply looking for a cool spot to buy a coffee and unwind, Red Jane Bakery is definitely...
Read moreI wanted to try here so badly so I made us walk 12 minutes from Old Town Chania just to sample things. Unfortunately I am quite disappointed and wouldn’t come back. As a pastry and coffee enthusiast here is what I think:
Almond croissant (€3.20) was extremely soggy in consistency, it literally broke in two and my first bite came off, it literally dropped off like a soft cookie. Apart from the consistency, the taste was just a bit bizarre, I didn’t like the dough nor the almond filling.
Pistachio Cardamom bun (€4.20) was straight up bad. Tasteless, you can barely taste cardamom. Again, the consistency was off and even a bit dry. Don’t take it. Truly a shame because it sounded quite promising.
Their coffee was quite nice. A cappuccino with single shot costs €2.30 and oatmilk costs extra €0.40. The atmosphere is giving industrial contemporary. Sure it is aligned with the Nordic bakery vibe but from outside it almost looks like a storage unit or a mechanic’s workshop. The lady who packed the pastries was sweet. Perhaps their sourdough bread tastes dope who knows but...
