One of the Best Things I’ve Ever Done – A Must for Any Football Fan!
Visiting the Greek National Football Museum was genuinely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had — not just in Greece, but anywhere. If you’re a football fan (especially of Greek football), this place is a hidden gem that you absolutely cannot miss.
The collection is incredible: shirts, boots, balls, tickets, and memorabilia from Greece’s legendary Euro 2004 win, and loads of other pieces from Greek and international football history. The depth of the collection shows how much passion and effort has gone into building it.
But what really makes it special is the owner. He’s not just a curator — he’s a true football lover who brings the whole experience to life with stories, insight, and real emotion. His warmth, energy, and knowledge turned what could have been a simple visit into something truly unforgettable. You can tell this is a labour of love, and his enthusiasm is contagious, with him sharing the football memorabilia with the customers and allowing me to take photos with football heritage such as the euros trophy and matchworn Maradona and Zidane shirts!
If you’re in Chania — even if you’re not a die-hard football fan — do not miss this. It’s a proper celebration of football and Greek pride, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more highly. Huge thanks to the owner for making it so memorable.
He even had some classic kits for sale at extremely...
Read moreThis is truly an outstanding museum, ran by a wholesome + friendly man who has incredible knowledge on football. The minor details he knew blew my mind and we had a good chat about Greek footballers who had played in England over the past 20-30 years, amongst general football based on what was on display at this museum. This is by far one of the best museums I have had the pleasure of visiting, if not THE best. It absolutely does not surprise me that this museum holds only 5* reviews, and was recognised in 2016 for an award with Tripadvisor.
It is difficult to appreciate the volume of memorabilia that this museum holds, all free of charge, so make sure to leave a tip!
There are plenty of shirts to purchase, too. Although you cannot purchase any of the displays, there is a diverse selection of football shirts for sale from the Greek Super League, the Greek National Team, International Countries and also general football teams.
Thank you to the owner of the store who offered me an insight into his outstanding knowledge of football, and for giving up some of his time to talk me through the different displays on show. I had the most amazing time at this museum, and would recommend to anyone to visit this museum, even if you are only hold a minor interest...
Read moreAny football fan worth their salt has to visit this museum that would put most footballing museums to shame. The owner, Nikos, used to be the president of the Greek Football supporters club.
The memorabilia in here is absolutely ridiculous, from David Beckhams shirt when beating Greece in 2001 to qualify for the 2002 World Cup, to signed Pele shirts and Maradona’s shirt for his last appearance for Argentina.
It’s a homage to a lot of national teams going back to the CCCP, East and West Germany shirts, and from Greek players who have gifted match worn shirts from their respective clubs from around Europe and the rest of the world.
The main attraction is Greece’s 2004 Euro’s win against Portugal in their own backyard in Lisbon. The Museum is filled with Greek players shirts and tickets from that famous 2004 campaign which saw them lift the famous trophy which is also housed inside the museum, and if you’re lucky enough, you can pose for a picture with the trophy which is extremely heavy!
Nikos is an extremely passionate football and Greece fan, thank you for giving up your time and sharing your passion for...
