Basilico Nuovo – Pizza, Restaurant & Cocktails — Restaurant in Municipality of Chersonissos

Basilico Nuovo serves up really good meals at a reasonable price in a beautiful restaurant let down only by slow service.

I will start by saying the food was amazing ! Really tasty. Seasoned perfectly and I would 100% recommend Basilico Nuovo.

My only criticism is that the service was slow. Not from the kitchen but from the servers. We were a large table of 10. We booked in advance but the table was not ready for our arrival. The tables were put together when we arrived, which was fine. The restaurant was quite busy so we expected a wait for the meal as they can only fit 8 pizzas in the oven. This was no problem for us.

When we finished our meal we waited for a very long time and the servers did not give us the offer of menu for dessert or after meal drinks so we asked for the bill to pay. They never brought us the bill after 20 minutes so we had to go inside to pay. This is not good and is the only part of the meal that lets down Basilico. You need to look after your guests better and we spend more money.

I paid and left a generous tip only because the food was really excellent 👌. I asked that they let the kitchen know this from me.

A really beatiful restaurant with terrible food offer. We came to eat pizza, as it seems that this is their main speciality. However it was not possible because they are serving pizza from 6 p.m (we were there around 3 p.m). They have some other mains in the menu so we have decided to go for it. We took "home made burger", "chicken filet", "grilled octopus" and oh boy how this was unsatisfaying - home made burger it's just a piece of two burgers on a leaf of lettuce with chips (home made chips - very, very fatty ), meat was grey dull and really nothing special, chicken was just a filet on the same leaf of lettuce with the same chips, octopus was hard and chewy not seasoned on top of that. The octopus was returned, the "burgers" half eaten, chicken untouched. Maybe they have good pizza (the oven look good) - 2* for promise of a good pizza, dont take anything else!

The restaurant is a really nice one, with an accessible location and delicious food. We were recommended some wine from the region and we were pleased with it. HOWEVER, and this is something that happened unfortunately in every place... the indifference with which the cats in the area are treated is heart wrenching. It should not be so hard to get some proper cat food and leave it outside (or where they cannot be seen if you want) to feed the poor creatures. But instead the Chef of this restaurant was kicking out one of the cats (very skinny) in a very rude way. Nor the host or the service did anything about it. As tourists we are told not to feed the cats but we have to witness frustrated and heartbroken how some locals just don't care about them. I hope in my next visit, I can see more humanity towards the animals, especially the cats which don't deserve so much...
